Derek St. Holmes is best known as being the vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the Motor City Madman, Ted Nugent. Derek’s voice is heard on some of Ted’s biggest hits, including “Stranglehold.” Brad Whitford is the ‘other’ guitar player in Aerosmith, often hidden in the shadow of the more visually iconic Joe Perry…

Strut present a brand new compilation documenting the groundbreaking maloya scene on Réunion Island from the mid-‘70s, as Western instrumentation joined traditional Malagasy, African and Indian acoustic instruments to spark a whole era of new fusions and creativity. Compiled by Réunionese DJ duo La Basse Tropicale, ‘Oté Maloya’ follows up last year’s acclaimed ‘Soul Sok Séga’ release on Strut. Traditional maloya, originally called “séga”, described the songs, music and dances of slaves on the sugar plantations of Réunion Island in the 17th Century – maloya ceremonies paid tribute to ancestors and mediated between the living and the dead.

25th Anniversary Reunion marks a special event for the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Founded in 1951 by the pianist with alto saxophonist Paul Desmond as his lead soloist, the group disbanded in 1967 so Brubeck could focus on composing sacred works. Their reunion with bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morello, the rhythm section that had gelled for good in the late '50s, was a special occasion, as the quartet toured the U.S. extensively. There were plans to record at the March 12, 1976, concert in Fort Wayne, IN, but Morello noticed a problem during an Interlochen performance and learned he suffered a detached retina, something that caused him to leave the tour immediately, with Dan Brubeck stepping in to fill his big shoes for the remaining concerts.

Most of this CD is taken up by a special Newport Jazz Festival concert featuring a big band full of Lionel Hampton's alumni. With trombonist Al Grey, Frank Foster on tenor and a screaming trumpet section that boasted Snooky Young, Jimmy Nottingham, Joe Newman and Wallace Davenport, the explosive nature of the music is not too surprising; the climax is provided by guest Illinois Jacquet on "Flying Home." The remainder of this disc contains half of a very effective 1956 session cut in Spain in which the medium-size group includes a castanet player and two songs match Hampton with the great Spanish pianist Tete Monteliu.

Reunion showcases a couple of old saxophone pros diving deep into the jazz mainstream, backed by an energized rhythm section. Tenor men Hadley Caliman and Pete Christlieb worked together on the Los Angeles Central Avenue jazz scene back in the 1960s, at a club called Marty's, where Caliman was the mentor. Forty-plus years later, they're back together again, on an absolute jewel of a straight-ahead offering.

When the original line-up of Status Quo reunited for a 9-dates UK tour in March of 2013 the outpouring of approval and raw emotion from the fans was incredible. Rossi, Parfitt, Lancaster and Coghlan received a rapturous response; the band clicked straight back into their groove, the chemistry obvious, the music stunning and the volume almost overpowering. Now the band are delighted to announce the release of "The Frantic Four Reunion 2013" a range of live material recorded on the tour.
