Rock & Roll / Twist / Western Swing | Running Time - 475:55 minutes | Label: Bear Family Records | Cat. # BCD 16157 FI

This is a collector's dream. All of Bill's American recordings of the 60s are here, and a lot of unreleased stuff too, recorded with after his departure at U.S. Decca Records. In a general sense, the music on the six CD's changes progressively from the first one until the last because Haley tries diferent kinds of styles and all this is obvious because the decade starts with some 50's influence and ends with the "Rock and Roll Revivals". Although he didn't reach the charts any more, his musical output was enormous and differed from good old Rock'n'Roll, Twist and Country & Western even to a Mariachi song.

At last. One of the most sorely neglected catalogs in music history has finally received the sonic upgrade it's long deserved, and the results are as heavenly as Jerry Garcia's mellifluous guitar tones. The analog refurbishment involves two of the most beloved rustic classics ever made, a high-flying debut, and a pair of experimental mind-benders.

James Taylor had scored eight Top 40 hits by the fall of 1976 when Warner Brothers marked the end of his contract with this compilation. One of those hits, the Top Ten gold single “Mockingbird,” a duet with his wife Carly Simon, was on Elektra Records, part of the Warner family of labels and presumably available, but it was left off.

Herbie Hancock - The Warner Bros. Years 1969-1972 (2014) [Box Set]
MP3 320 kbps CBR | 152:12 min | 354 MB
Genre: Jazz, Funk | Label: Rhino - Warner Bros.

Herbie Hancock’s Warner Brothers recordings represent the emergence and unfolding of his Mwandishi Band. This genre-crossing group pioneered an expressive use of sound and technologies, a blend of beat and abstraction, Afrocentric sensibilities, and while fronted by a strong leader, a collectivist approach to making music. The band prepared the groundwork for Hancock’s emergence as a proponent of a synergy between jazz and funk. The Warner Bros. Years (1969-1972) brings together his complete catalogue for the label, together with singles and promotional recordings, reissued for the very first time.

Altoist David Sanborn has long been one of the leaders of what could be called rhythm & jazz (R&B-oriented jazz). His debut for Warner Brothers was a major commercial success and helped make him into a major name. The music is fairly commercial but certainly danceable and melodic. Even at that point in time, Sanborn's alto cries were immediately recognizable; the Brecker Brothers, guitarist Steve Khan and Howard Johnson on baritone and tuba are prominent in support.
