In this DVD, Zoe demonstrates how the dancer can interpret drum solo rhythms several ways, giving the student an opportunity to explore percussive music with fluid grace or sharp percussive accents such as hits, pops, locks, and her trademark spins. Zoe starts the student off with a warm-up she uses regularly in her workshops, and integrates drills specifically chosen to get the student comfortable with her movement base. In the Drum Solo section, Issam begins with an explanation of the Rhythm he is playing for that section, and Zoe will break down, with her clear and concise instruction, unique combinations tailored to each rhythm presented. The combinations will then be put together to create an entire dance which will be performed by Zoe.
DANCER were formed from remnants of Isle of Wight folk rockers SHIDE & ACORN and future famed film director the late Anthony Minghella. Minghella had previously appeared as keyboardist in a small jazz group known as EARTHLIGHT. The musicians were discovered by Wilf Pine, former manager of BLACK SABBATH and future reputed ranking member of the Gotti mafia syndicate in the United States. Pine secured the group studio time at Olympia in the Barnes suburb of London in 1972, where they recorded seven tracks over a month's period under the direction of GROUNDHOGS guitarist Tony McPhee. McPhee, despite having an arm in a cast offered the guitar solo to close the title track. DANCER dissolved soon afterwards and their recordings remained forgotten until copies emerged nearly thirty years later and were released by Kissing Spell.
Samstag is an opera for 13 solo performers (1 voice, 10 instrumentalists, and 2 dancers) plus a symphonic band (or symphony orchestra), ballet or mimes, and male choir with organ. It was composed between 1981 and 1983. Saturday is Lucifer's day. It opens with the Samstags Gruss (Saturday's Greeting) for four spatially separated brass ensembles with percussion (Bandur 1999). The opera itself consists of four scenes: Luzifers Traum (Lucifer's Dream), for bass voice and piano; Kathinkas Gesang als Luzifers Requiem (Kathinka's Chant as Lucifer's Requiem), for flute and six perdussionists; Luzifers Tanz (Lucifer's Dance), for symphony band (or orchestra), bass voice, solo piccolo, solo piccolo trumpet, solo dancer, stilt-dancer, and dancer-mimes; and Luzifers Abschied (Lucifer's Farewell), for male choir, seven trombones, and organ.from Wikipedia
'Testament' is Rachel Barton Pine's very personal homage to the music of J. S. Bach, on which she performs the composer's complete Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin in the acoustic of her hometown St. Pauls Church in Chicago, where she first heard and fell in love with Bach's music.
