Saxophonist Phillip Johnston founded The Microscopic Septet in 1980 when the group briefly counted John Zorn as one of its members. They recorded four albums and were a regular presence in New York's downtown scene before disbanding in 1992. In 2006 Cuneiform Records re-released the four albums leading to the reformation of the group and presently, to their new release Been Up So Long It Looks Like Down to Me: The Micros Play the Blues.

Surprises - they come around, but not often. It’s the rarity that catches you off guard. The jolt that wakes you up. When an unsolicited email comes in suggesting you look into something, you get used to it being a bit of a let down. Then a message comes around from a stranger about a local 18 year-old’s new full-length album. Curiosity sets in, your ears perk, your eyes shift, your head turns on its axis. A wash of perplexity overcomes. “Who is this? What’s the story here? How did I not already know about this? His voice sounds great… he’s 18?!” Too often, locals might presume we know of all Wichita has to offer, but there are still sucker punches still there. And damn, if it doesn’t feel good to get knocked out every once and a while.

Australian six-piece Fairchild are set to continue their string of 1980s musical praises with the release of trailblazing new single ‘Relevance’ – an intoxicating pastiche of new wave and dance rock bombast, masterfully captured and repolished to a 21st century sheen by producer/mixer Catherine Marks (Foals, The Killers, Wolf Alice). Interlacing austere guitar riffs with murky synths and an uncharacteristic tenor croon from singer Adam Lyons, ‘Relevance’ revs its engines and spins its wheels before leaving the listener in a haze of scorching rubber and desert dust. Adam Lyons states, “In the studio I remember thinking ‘how I sing on [Relevance] is much more important than the words coming out of my mouth.’ The instrumental had no discernible chord changes in the verses and I knew my vocal needed to act as a linchpin to hold the track together.

Frederick Knight (born August 15, 1944, Birmingham, Alabama) is an American R&B singer, songwriter and record producer. Knight recorded with Mercury and Capitol in New York before signing with Stax Records in 1972. He had his only UK hit single, "I've Been Lonely For So Long," in 1972. The song was on the chart for 10 weeks and reached #22. Lack of further chart activity leaves him labelled as a one-hit wonder. However, Knight did appear in the documentary film, Wattstax, which was released in 1973.

The Microscopic Septet is one of those rare groups that have been able to take a unique and enduring approach to various forms of popular music, be it jazz, blues, R & B, rock, pop, and so on, by balancing respect with irreverence, namely such outfits as Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention, the New Rhythm and Blues Quintet (NRBQ), the Sun Ra Arkestra, the Jazz Passengers, the Vienna Art Orchestra, and Mostly Other People Do the Killing.

Night So Long is the 1980 album by legendary soul singer Dionne Warwick, and the album has been highly regarded as one of Dionnes most amazing albums. The album, still to this day, continues to sound fresh and classy with elegant performances without being repetitious. The title song was and still is an instant classic. No Night So Long opens with the light and breezy Easy Love which sets the mood perfectly, before Dionne works her magic on the ballads When The World Runs Out Of Love and How You Once Loved Me. Her version of We Has This Time is superb as Warwick s voice iconic husky undertone continues, without taking away her amazing range, and ability to hold the long notes. And of course her biggest gift is the emotion with which she tackles all her songs. The whole album here is superb and a must for Dionne lovers, as well, as lovers of quality music. This Expanded & Remastered Edition contains four previously un-released bonus gems.
