MP3 320 kbps CBR | 54:40 min | 193 MB
Genre: Vocal Jazz | Label: Anzic Records

For her 4th CD, Melissa Stylianou has assembled a fascinating collection of songs from various sources, ranging from originals to contemporary singer-songwriters (such as Joanna Newsom, Paul Simon and James Taylor) as well as "classic" songs from Henry Mancini, Jerome Kern & Oscar Hammerstein and Johnny Cash. "Silent Movie" (Anzic Records) is best described by its creator as "a collection of small stories, everyday life caught in a series of moving frames." And what a fine storyteller Ms. Stylianou is. The opening track, Charlie Chaplin's classic melody "Smile", is flat-out gorgeous. No frills, no vocal acrobatics or fancy solos, just the wisdom of the lyrics (composed by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons)

USA September 5, 1916
Réalisateur D.W. GRIFFITH

Acteurs Robert Harron, Mae Marsh, Miriam Cooper, Lillian Gish, Sam De Grasse, Vera Lewis, Tod Browning, Bessie Love, W.S. Van Dyke, King Vidor, Erich Von Stroheim, Douglas Fairbanks

Director D.W. Griffith's expensive, most ambitious silent film masterpiece Intolerance (1916) is one of the milestones and landmarks in cinematic history. Many reviewers and film historians consider it the greatest film of the silent era. The mammoth film was also subtitled: "A Sun-Play of the Ages" and "Love's Struggle Throughout the Ages." Griffith was inspired to make this film after watching the revolutionary Italian silent film epic Cabiria (1914) by director Giovanni Pastrone.

Directed by Mel BROOKS

SILENT MOVIE is director Mel Brooks's comic tribute to the golden days of the silent screen. A movie within a movie, SILENT MOVIE stars Brooks as Mel Funn, a filmmaker who has seen better days–for one thing, he's just come out of a bout with the bottle. When his best friends (Marty Feldman and Dom DeLuise) rescue him from despair and convince him to make another attempt at moviemaking, Mel comes up with an idea–a silent picture. Alas, this is the 1970s, and in order to get backing from wacky, frazzled studio chief Sid Caesar, the three pals have to get lots of celebrities to agree to be in their silent picture. SILENT MOVIE is, in fact, silent, and all the celebrities play themselves (or parodies of themselves). Funny, warm, and packed with sight gags galore, the film evokes the days of Chaplin, Keaton, and Pickford and Fairbanks while remaining oddly, and wondrously, contemporary. There is hardly a funnier scene than when Burt Reynolds–vainly admiring himself in the mirror while showering–is talked-up about the movie by DeLuise, Brooks, and Feldman, all in the shower together.

Man with a Movie Camera (1929)
A Film by Dziga Vertov
DVD9 | VIDEO_TS | PAL 4:3 | 01:07:08 | 7,24 Gb
Silent or Michael Nyman's Score with Russian intertitles and English subs
Genre: Documentary, Avant-garde

A playful documentary of a day in the life of the Soviet Union.
Man With a Movie Camera is an extraordinary piece of filmmaking. An exuberant montage of urban Russia, it represents the people of the city at work and at play, and the machines that keep the city going with energetic lyricism. A member of the Soviet avant-garde, Vertov used a variety of pioneering cinematic techniques to document the full spectrum of 1929 Soviet life - dissolves, split screen, slow motion and freeze frames - and produced a radical experiment that is exhilarating and intellectually brilliant.

In September 2004 Natasha Bedingfield debuted smashingly in the United Kingdom. Her first record, Unwritten, went to number one almost immediately and the glowing response established her as an instant pop star. Her ascent mirrored the sudden popularity of brother Daniel Bedingfield in 2001, when his bedroom production "Gotta Get Through This" rocketed similarly up the charts. For Natasha, it's "Single" and the near-perfect "These Words (I Love You, I Love You)" – tracks that merge the rhythms and flavors of hip-hop and R&B with unique melodies and Bedingfield's vocal confidence – "Single," for example, suggests Kelly Clarkson's 2003 single "Miss Independent." Bedingfield co-writes all but one song on Unwritten, working with songwriters like Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams), Andrew Frampton (S Club 7), and Danielle Brisebois. And she stays remarkably poised throughout, selling some of the album's weaker arrangements with the dusky grain at the top end of her vocal.
