A native of Peru, Celso Garrido-Lecca is one of the foremost Ibero-American composers, successfully integrating a unique blend of musical elements that include serialism, the native sounds of the Andes, and the influence of the "Nueva Cancion Chilena" movement. Impressions of folk music capture celebrations of life and moments of drama in the Suite peruana and Danzas populares andinas, while Laudes II expresses praise through Chinese philosophy. The award-winning Retablos sinfonicos combines popular roots in both vocal music and dance forms driven by a cajon or wooden box-drum.

Beecham had an exquisite ear for detail, and his Peer Gynt has more fantasy — more subtlety, too — than anyone else's: Ase s Death and Anitra 's Dance are simply magical. So is the Symphonic Dance, and if In Autumn and the variations occasionally seem a litde thin musically, Beecham makes amends with keenness of attack and eloquent phrasing. The orchestra is superb and the transfers (which give us the variations in stereo for the first time), excellent.

Since their 1999 debut concert, Come Shine and their unconventional versions of standard jazz tunes have been a favorite to a wide range of Norwegian music lovers. They released three best-selling jazz albums during their first four years- including one album with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra live at Kongsberg Jazz Festival 2003. The quartet took an indefinite break in 2004. After their reunion eight years later, the Come Shine sound had become darker, groovier and influenced by several other genres than jazz. The music on this symphonic album is the result of three sources combined: some of last centurys most talented song writers, Come Shines many years of cultivating their band, and piano player Erlend Skromsovolls unique arranger skills. Known to Norwegians as KORK, this orchestra is cherished throughout the country.

There are literally hundreds of muzak albums by the likes of 101 Strings, Ferrante & Teicher, and Mitch Miller. Each album has a theme, like 101 Strings Plays the Ramones or Ferrante & Teicher Salute Root Boy Slim & the Sex Change Band. Most of them are easily ignored. Every so often, however, a true gem arises from the fog. Norwegian Wood by Trio Rococo is such a gem. Niels Eje (oboe and oboe d'amore), Inge Mulvad (cello), and Berit Spaelling (harp) have translated 15 John Lennon/Paul McCartney songs and one George Harrison song lovingly and meticulously. These familiar pieces take on a whole new texture in the hands of these gifted musicians…

Was modern Christian mission to Africa primarily a colonial project and a civilizing mission or was it a spiritual revival spreading to new areas? This book tells the tale of the Dii people in northern Cameroon and describes their encounter with Norwegian missionaries.
