Documentary / The definitive authorised story of the album

In 1980, Motörhead released their fourth studio album Ace Of Spades. Loud, Fast and overwhelmingly heavy, Ace Of Spades would propel Motorhead into the ranks of Heavy Metal's elite and 27 years later is still considered a benchmark album in it's genre. As part of the Classic Albums series, this documentary features song and video clips from Ace Of Spades, accompanied by insightful interviews with band members, managers, producers, and fellow musicians, including Metallica's Lars Ulrich and Guns N' Roses' Slash, among others…

A fabulous collection of rock numbers from Eddie Cochran to Wheatus by way of Status Quo and Black Sabbath that will appeal not only to the air guitarists among us, but to everyone who finds great rock music exhilarating and enjoyable. Whether you're giving the grand solo performance in the privacy of you own home or hammering down the motorway with the wind in your (remaining) hair this double album hits the spot. The exhausted will feel reinvigorated and the depressed can hardly fail to feel somewhat more cheerful after sampling a few of these tracks. A second volume is promised and I will be one of the first in line when it is released. A treat - don't miss it!

Presumably filmed in black and white for arty farty reasons - if I remember correctly it was shown on TV in colour, which was odd - this is a great DVD of the then line-up and one of their most tremendous performances from the tour of the same year. As ever with all things Motorhead, you get what you pay for and with no punches pulled. The performances are a smack right on the nose with every track, and each one of them is as mighty and menacing as you would expect from the baddest boys of rock 'n' roll. The interview segments are, as ever, interesting and often humourous, and this is a great slice of the band at this period in their history.

Motörhead - Classic Album Selection (2012, 6CD)

There is no easy way to say this… our mighty, noble friend Lemmy passed away today after a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. He had learnt of the disease on December 26th, and was at home, sitting in front of his favorite video game from The Rainbow which had recently made it’s way down the street, with his family.

We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words. We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…
play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD.
