If memory serves me, the mid 1980s weren't too kind to AC/DC. After a string of million selling albums, the band saw its sales decline, and it lost much of its thunder to more polished, radio-friendly groups (Van Halen, Motley Crue, Def Leppard). AC/DC could have jumped on a bandwagon, done the USA for Africa thing, and dabble with synths to be more "relevant" and "current" with the times. Instead, they released in 1985 "Fly on the Wall," which stubbornly follows the same formula these Aussies have been using since the early 1970s.

Marc Silberman, "The German Wall: Fallout in Europe"
English | 2011 | ISBN: 0230112161 | PDF | 274 pages | 5,9 MB

When the Berlin Wall came down suddenly in 1989, it marked a rupture of global significance. Almost overnight, November 9 became one of the most significant dates in global collective memory, as well as a signal event in German national history. This book examines the consequences of the fall of the Wall: the physical barrier, its demise, and how it has been mediated in film and television; how the city and nation that had been torn asunder now struggle to reunite; how old and new minorities are being socially and politically integrated; and how a new European identity emerges in the post-Wall era.

The finest collection ever assembled on Slade's hit-making heyday, Feel the Noize: The Very Best of Slade contains all of the group's hit singles from the early '70s, from 1971's "Get Down and Get With It" to 1975's "Thanks for the Memory (Wham Bam Thank You Mam)." In between those two songs, all of the group's big, dumb, irresistible, and misspelled hits – "Cuz I Luv You," "Take Me Bak 'Ome," "Mama Weer All Crazee Now," "Gudbuy T'Jane," "Cum On Feel the Noize," "Skweeze Me Pleeze Me" – are featured. Though it is missing latter-day hits like "My Oh My," Slade never got better than they did at their stomping glitter-rock peak, and Feel the Noize…

From Ken Burns's documentaries to historical dramas such as Roots, from A&E's Biography series to CNN's coverage of such events as the fall of the Berlin Wall, television has become the primary source for historical information for tens of millions of Americans today. Why has television become such a respected authority? What falsehoods enter our collective memory as truths? How is one to know what is real and what is imagined - or ignored - by producers, directors, or writers? Gary Edgerton and Peter Rollins have collected a group of essays that answer these and many other questions…
