Eric Andersen got his start as a singer/songwriter just about the time the folk revival went bust in the mid-'60s, when the phrase "singer/songwriter" wasn't familiar, as it is today. Now, some 40 years later, Andersen continues to follow his muse, which includes a deep investment in the blues on the live Blue Rain. Andersen's voice seems to have grown richer and has developed more texture over the span of time, something that rarely happens to rock singers; as a result, his readings of familiar lyrics carry more weight. He kicks off the set with a slow, menacing version of Fred Neil's "The Other Side of This Life." For folk fans, the song is overly familiar, but Andersen's vocal provides a darker underpinning than the usual, adding a new dimension to this well-worn classic.

Warm, lyrical, and aristocratic in his interpretations, Artur Rubinstein performed impressively into extremely old age, and he was a keyboard prodigy almost from the time he could climb onto a piano bench. He came from a mercantile rather than a musical family, but fixated on the piano as soon as he heard it. At age three he impressed Joseph Joachim, and by the age of seven he was playing Mozart, Schubert, and Mendelssohn at a charity concert in his hometown.

A distinctive, girlish voice, crisp, impeccable delivery, and an irrepressible sense of playful swing made Blossom Dearie one of the most enjoyable singers of the vocal era. Her warmth and sparkle ensured that she'd never treat standards as the well-worn songs they often appeared in less capable hands. And though her reputation was made on record with a string of excellent albums for Verve during the '50s, she remained a draw with Manhattan cabaret audiences long into the new millennium.

In 1983, just about every up-and-coming hard rock guitarist was mesmerized by – and copying – Eddie Van Halen's two-handed tapping technique. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, came Yngwie Malmsteen, who introduced "classical metal" to the masses. Before making a name for himself as a solo artist, Yngwie was briefly a member of L.A. rockers Alcatrazz, which resulted in a studio album (1983's No Parole from Rock 'n' Roll) and a live album (1984's Live Sentence). But come 2010, an archival live album appeared from the band (from the "Yngwie era"), Live '83. As its title states, the album is comprised of live performances from the same year that Alcatrazz's debut album was released…

Iron Maiden has released over a dozen live records, so the first question for any practical fan is, "do I really need another one?" The Book of Souls Tour is perhaps the most significant in the band's history because it was the first singer Bruce Dickinson undertook after completing treatment for throat cancer. Not only did he sing, but, as usual, piloted the band's 747 to 39 countries on six continents in 2016 and 2017. The band performed in front of more than two million people. The set was produced by Tony Newton with assistance from bassist Steve Harris.
