Following on the heels of the success of the rock opera Tommy and the band’s grandstand appearance at the Woodstock Festival, when released in 1970, Live At Leeds unwittingly documented the Who at the peak of their powers, their shows now stretching up to two and a half hours without a break and containing Tommy as their centrepiece.
Except it should have been very different. The original intention was to release the recording from the Hull City Hall performance the following night after Leeds as the live album.

Returning to the scene of their triumphant reunion at the 2010 Reading & Leeds Festival, The Libertines are back with new tracks, a new record and a renewed vigour. 'Anthems for Doomed Youth' will be the band’s first since their self-titled second album, a classic British rock album which reached Number 1 in 2004. The band – who feature Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell – split soon afterwards and the greatest rock n’ roll story of a generation has been waiting for a new chapter ever since. Finally, the time has come…

Rushed out in 1970 as a way to bide time as the Who toiled away on their follow-up to Tommy, Live at Leeds wasn't intended to be the definitive Who live album, and many collectors maintain that the band had better shows available on bootlegs. But those shows weren't easily available whereas Live at Leeds was, and even if this show may not have been the absolute best, it's so damn close to it that it would be impossible for anybody but aficionados to argue…

The English rock band The Who perform on their first live album Live at Leeds. The album features, what is considered to be, the group's best line-up with Pete Townshend on guitar, Roger Daltrey on lead vocals, John Entwistle on bass guitar and Keith Moon on the drums. Live at Leeds, often referred to as one of the best live rock albums of all time, was recorded at the University of Leeds in Yorkshire. The 33 song set list includes "My Generation", "Summertime Blues" and "Magic Bus", along with many other classic titles by the group.

"It's an opera, 'innit?"
"How should we know what it bloody is?"

The bad news is, this is not the complete show. The good news is, what's here, just the "Tommy" portion of the famous (some would say 'infamous') show released on "Live at Leeds", is in excellent quality, better than that found on the Midas Touch Live at Leeds Complete release. It's as near perfect as it can get, at least sound quality wise. Recommended.
