"If you don't know this CD and call yourself a music guru, connoisseur, fan or whatever, then there is something seriously wrong witcho' head. Quite possibly the best remix CD ever done, Kruder and Dorfmeister's K&D Sessions is indeed a classic in every sense of the word."

THIS TIME NOW is a sound conceived by drummer, teacher, composer, arranger and author, Tony Noterfonzo. Claudine Longet's long suit was really her album's covers, which made their purchase almost irresistable (at least, to men) once they were displayed in record stores. That said, this collection of her combined output for Barnaby Records (the label founded and owned by her then husband, Andy Williams) isn't bad the two albums We've Only Just Begun and Let's Spend the Night Together have been combined in these 24 tracks, all remastered in state of the art sound…

THE COMPLETE BITCHES BREW SESSIONS won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Boxed Recording Package. Released in 1970, BITCHES BREW undeniably changed the shape of jazz to come. Fundamentalists groan that it diluted the form, bringing on the fusion plague and sowing the germs of smooth jazz. But a cross-section of adventurous listeners recognized it for the monumental sonic breakthrough it was: slabs of free jazz mixed with hard-funk rhythms, rock's electric textures and a meditative blues spirit, with the studio used as the editing desk to tie these elements together.

Get It While You Can: The Legendary Sessions is a 1995 compilation album by singer Howard Tate. Released by Chronicles, this is different from the 2CD set Get It While You Can: The Legendary Verve Sessions. Sadly, the creator couldn't come up with a more imaginative title for the other compilation but what can you do.

5-CD hardcover album (CD-size) - 68-page booklet - 181 tracks -(366 min.). For devotees of Bill Monroe's music, the CD box sets issued by BEAR FAMILY beginning in 1989 were the answer to a listener's dream: having the bluegrass originator's complete recordings tastefully collected in boxes, with informative books included. What we now have is something even more dreamlike: all the familiar Monroe recordings for DECCA in 1950-51, featuring lead singers Jimmy Martin, Carter Stanley, and Edd Mayfield, presented next to – unbelievably – all the outtakes (none pre- viously issued) of all the tracks. Among other things, this means multiple takes of Raw Hide.

Danny Ben-Israel's main claim to fame is an album called Bullsh*t 3 1/4, the first psychedelic protest album sung in Hebrew. During those same sessions in 1968, he also recorded a handful of tracks in English, which are now seeing their first release 35 years after the fact. Recorded in Tel Aviv, Israel, the title concept comes from the fact that the bandmembers (most names lost to the fog of the times) heard you could buy hashish in stores in Nepal, so the recording session took the form of an imagined journey to Kathmandu (sic) for the purpose of scoring hash (although it sounds like they had some success in Israel).

This double-disc set features all of the studio performances between saxophonist Stan Getz and guitarist Jimmy Raney recorded between October of 1948 and April of 1953. The sheer number of labels the pair recorded for is staggering, from Sittin' in With to Roost, Savoy, Sesco, Clef, Prestige, and others. And while Getz, particularly on the early sides, is still deeply entrenched in his worship of Charlie Parker, the cool elegance of Raney's own playing is already asserting itself on the early sides, so that by 1951, Getz has moved toward the center from strictly bebop. Some of the other players on these sessions include Duke Jordan, Curly Russell, Blossom Dearie, Horace Silver, Roy Haynes, Frank Isola, and many others…
