Combinatorial Methods and Models: Rudolf Ahlswede’s Lectures on Information Theory 4 (Repost)

Combinatorial Methods and Models: Rudolf Ahlswede’s Lectures on Information Theory 4 By Alexander Ahlswede, Ingo Althöfer, Christian Deppe, Ulrich Tamm
English | PDF | 2018 | 395 Pages | ISBN : 3319531379 | 4.85 MB

The fourth volume of Rudolf Ahlswede’s lectures on Information Theory is focused on Combinatorics. Ahlswede was originally motivated to study combinatorial aspects of Information Theory via zero-error codes: in this case the structure of the coding problems usually drastically changes from probabilistic to combinatorial. The best example is Shannon’s zero error capacity, where independent sets in graphs have to be examined. The extension to multiple access channels leads to the Zarankiewicz problem.

Piecewise Deterministic Processes in Biological Models

Piecewise Deterministic Processes in Biological Models By Prof. Ryszard Rudnicki, Prof. Marta Tyran-Kamińska
English | PDF | 2017 | 177 Pages | ISBN : 331961293X | 4.8 MB

This book presents a concise introduction to piecewise deterministic Markov processes (PDMPs), with particular emphasis on their applications to biological models. Further, it presents examples of biological phenomena, such as gene activity and population growth, where different types of PDMPs appear: continuous time Markov chains, deterministic processes with jumps, processes with switching dynamics, and point processes. Subsequent chapters present the necessary tools from the theory of stochastic processes and semigroups of linear operators, as well as theoretical results concerning the long-time behaviour of stochastic semigroups induced by PDMPs and their applications to biological models.

From Mafia to Organised Crime: A Comparative Analysis of Policing Models

From Mafia to Organised Crime: A Comparative Analysis of Policing Models By Dr. Anna Sergi
English | PDF | 2017 | 321 Pages | ISBN : 3319535676 | 9.72 MB

This book presents primary research conducted in Italy, USA, Australia and the UK on countering strategies and institutional perceptions of Italian mafias and local organized crime groups. Through interviews and interpretation of original documents, this study firstly demonstrates the interaction between institutional understanding of the criminal threats and historical events that have shaped these perceptions. Secondly, it combines analysis of policies and criminal law provisions to identify how policing models which combat mafia and organised crime activities are organized and constructed in each country within a comparative perspective.
