Trumpeter Claudio Roditi is well showcased on this CD in an intimate setting with pianist Klaus Ignatzek and bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse. Actually, all three musicians often act as equals during a date reminiscent of some of Chet Baker's Steeplechase recordings; Rassinfosse frequently played bass with Baker during the trumpeter's European years. The musicians perform five Ignatzek songs, four by Roditi, and "On Green Dolphin Street." Roditi takes a forgettable vocal on "Sem Falar," but his trumpet playing is heard at its prime throughout and some of the originals (particularly "Avocado," "Waltz for Walter," "Either Way," and "Sussex Garden") are catchy and infectious. Three for One is a very likable set that is lightly swinging, melodic, and fun.

Paier and Valcic’s music is always sensual and rich in images, and this opulence of colours and pictures is also at the heart of what “Cinema Scenes” is about: they let their impressions of films flow freely as music, but above all the two musicians give expression to their own visual ideas.

By nature shy and retiring, Klaus Tennstedt was a reluctant celebrity, and his international career in the last quarter of the twentieth century must have seemed utterly incredible to him. Yet as introverted and introspective as Tennstedt was, it doesn't seem at all obvious in this 1983 concert recording of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 6 in A minor, "Tragic," for this is one of the conductor's most extroverted, aggressive, and potent performances.
