Originally put out on the Swingville label, this CD reissue is very much in the Count Basie vein. That fact is not too surprising when one considers that the quintet includes three members of Basie's men: trumpeter Joe Newman, tenor saxophonist Frank Wess and bassist Eddie Jones. Joined by the complementary pianist Tommy Flanagan and drummer Oliver Jackson, Newman and his friends swing their way through four vintage standards and a couple of the leader's original blues in typical fashion.

Jive Bunny And The Mastermixers were one of the greatest acts of Europe in the late 80's and early 90's. Okay, maybe that's a bit too covetous but they did have two number 1 singles in 1989, both of which are on this album. You can consider this the late 80's/early 90's version of Jaap Eggermont and the Stars On (45/Long Play) movement.

Christmas Jump & Jive is one of two holiday-themed compilations included in Rod McKuen's series "Songs That Won The War." This collection is sourced primarily from radio broadcasts and transcriptions. It is a strange package: many of the selections are not holiday tunes; many are not from the 1940s, much less the war years; and some of the track titles are dubious at best: the "Quiet Christmas Riot" attributed to Buddy Rich is plain old "Quiet Riot," and Benny Goodman's "Jingle Bell Jive" is the 1935 "Jingle Bells" recorded for Victor. But buried in the filler are some rare gems: a breakneck broadcast version of Duke Ellington's "Ring Dem Bells"; a rare parody of "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" by the equally rare pairing of Bing Crosby and Ella Fitzgerald; and a broadcast performance of Nat King Cole's "Mrs. Santa Claus."

For a brief time, tenor saxophonist Bill Holman and drummer Mel Lewis led a hard-swinging quintet based in Los Angeles. Trumpeter Lee Katzman, pianist Jimmy Rowles and bassist Wilford Middlebrook complete the group, a band that benefits greatly from the arrangements of Holman. Rowles contributed "502 Blues Theme," Holman brought in two songs, and the unit also performs the obscure "Mah Lindy Lou" and two originals. This album (originally on the Andex label) serves as proof that not all jazz recordings from Los Angeles in the 1950s are quiet and cool.

The style and the class of these two sacred monsters of music, is best expressed in these very special performances in an unusual but extremely involving duo! A great record!

Terminal Jive is the ninth album by the American rock band Sparks and the second recorded with Giorgio Moroder. The album has a disco-vibe like its predecessor but featured fewer synthesizers, opting instead for more electric rock guitar, resulting in a new wave sound. The album was produced by Moroder and Harold Faltermeyer, the latter of whom is claimed to have produced the majority of the album. Sparks scored a massive hit single in France with "When I'm With You", which led to them staying in the country for a year promoting the album.
