Earlier this year, Pitchfork's Meaghan Garvey wrote a feature called "Waiting for Jeremih", which detailed the delay of Jeremih's Late Nights: The Album. Guess what? It's out right now via Def Jam. It features Future, Migos, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, Big Sean, Juicy J, J. Cole, and more. Listen via Apple Music/iTunes. Late Nights: The Album had two release dates scheduled for last year, but both came and went. In an interview with Billboard last year, he partially blamed the delay on Def Jam not supporting him the way they were supporting bigger acts like Rick Ross, Kanye West, and Rihanna. He also blamed himself, saying he "stopped caring about being Jeremih over the last few months." Instead, he was focused on a legal battle with the mother of his son.

K. Michelle is never one to mince words. With the arrival of “Birthday,” the club-ready first offering from her upcoming fourth album Kimberly: The People I Used to Know, the Memphis, Tenn. native enters yet another chapter of her career, this time more honest than before. The LP, which features contributions from Chris Brown (“Either Way”), Jeremih, Yo Gotti and Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, mines directly from her personal life and those around her, something that isn’t necessarily new for the R&B singer but continues to give her motivation to make more honest music. “I always say people use us for some things: men might use us for our hot pockets, women might use us just to be cool with us or whatever,” says the singer, born Kimberly Pate. “But whatever the person that’s using you, you should use them to learn something.”

Released on her 31st birthday, Sevyn Streeter’s sparkling debut album traces her journey to womanhood. Through tender, confessional R&B, she relays important lessons she learned along the way that any listener can relate to: Be honest (“Translation”), love yourself first (“Before I Do”), don’t date players (“How Many”), and skip on revenge (“Everything in Me”). The project features a bunch of all-star men, including Wiz Khalifa and The-Dream, but the story is all hers.

American Honey is a 2016 British-American drama road film written and directed by Andrea Arnold. It stars Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf, and Riley Keough. The film focuses on a road trip undertaken by Star (Sasha Lane) and a group of fellow youngsters who are travelling across the country selling magazine subscriptions. As they move from town to town, across the vast expanses of America, they listen to a lot of music in the mini-van they are travelling in. They also use music for motivation for selling, including a daily ritual of listening to ‘Choices (Yup)’ by E-40. There’s a lot of hip hop, but there are also a few moments in the film in which different sorts of music creep in, including a somewhat surprising appearance of a song by Bonnie “Prince” Billy.
