Each of the selections on this set has between seven and a dozen trombonists along with a rhythm section. The first five selections were recorded with East Coast musicians and the next six with players from the West Coast but, truth be told, there is no real difference in the style of music.

Features 24 bit remastering and comes with a mini-description. Saxes Inc – a unique sax-heavy session done by Warner Brothers, and a blaring batch of tracks played by an all-star all-sax group that includes Herb Geller, Phil Woods, Gene Quill, Al Cohn, Zoot Sims, Seldon Powell, Hal McKusick, and Georgie Auld! Bob Prince arranged and conducted, and the approach is surprisingly modernist, with the saxes carrying the bulk of the rhythm and melody, as well as the solos – a really great approach that makes for plenty of unique moments – all handled with a sound that's a lot more fluid than you might expect! Titles include "Four Brothers" (of course!), "The Gypsy", "Night In Tunisia", "Jumpin With Symphony Sid", and "Axmobile".

Reissue with latest remastering. Comes with liner notes. JJ Johnson's greatest album – without a doubt! This gem of a session was recorded in 1960 in New York, with an incredibly hip sextet that includes Cedar Walton, Clifford Jordan, and Freddie Hubbard. The tracks are all long, hip, and very much in a Blue Note soul jazz mode – very unusual not only for Johnson, but for Columbia records as well. The album feels like it should have been issued on Epic, with those killer Dave Bailey sides from 1961 – which might be why it has frequently gotten lost in Johnson's career, hidden amidst some of the sleepier material that seems to see the light of day more often than this one. The album's a stone winner all the way through – and features Johnson playing some of his gutsiest solos ever. Tracks include "Minor Mist", "In Walked Horace", "Fatback", "Aquarius", and "Shutterbug".

Lounge, Electro-Jazz, Downtempo | Label: Café Del Mar Music | # 1-2014-106, DL I-122-2014

An album that shows the inventiveness of an "essential" recording of Fine Electro-Jazz for all Café Del Mar' collectors. It compiles the efforts of several top European producers, the sounds and styles on display here have strong links to London's electronic scene, the Parisian/American jazz-house community, and Germany's earthy breakbeat maestros. Toni Simonen has succeeded in creating a tight compilation which will excite aficionados of electro beats while even jazz fans will not have any trouble keeping up their interest. Highlights are numerous, from Jakatta' "The other world," Tom Middleton and The Karminski Experience "The Sea". Employing deep house, tittering breaks, and down-tempo attitudes that virtually re-invented the entire electro jazz movement, taking cues from ambient and its chin-stroking underground, songs like "Timeless" or "Zeus" seem to highly respond to the jazz excursions while carrying all the emotional weight of an inspiring collection Sometimes spiced with vocals, and always supported with backings that are sensitive and spare enough to let the work of the main soloist take center stage!

"Jazz from Hell" is an instrumental album whose selections were all composed and recorded by Frank Zappa. It was released in 1986 by Barking Pumpkin Records on vinyl and by Rykodisc on CD. "Jazz from Hell" was Zappa's final studio album released in his lifetime; for the remaining seven years of his life, he would only release live concert albums. All compositions were executed by Frank Zappa on the Synclavier DMS with the exception of "St. Etienne", a guitar solo excerpted from a live performance Zappa gave of "Drowning Witch" during a concert in Saint-Étienne, France, on his 1982 tour.

Stephane Grappelli - Felling+Finesse=Jazz (1962)  Music

Although he was very active in France during the 1950s and '60s, violinist Stephane Grappelli recorded relatively little until 1969. This Atlantic LP from 1962 finds Grappelli in good form in a quintet with guitarist Pierre Cavalli, performing a Django-dominated repertoire that is not all that different from what he would be playing 30 years later.
