The only Christmas album ever recorded by the Jackson 5, this 1970 release has sold over three-and-a-half million copies and features the brothers' hit version of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town along with several other holiday favourites and a couple of Motown-style original Christmas songs. Most of the Motown artists found time to record one, sometimes two or three albums for Christmas, and the young Jackson 5 were obviously candidates for being added to the list.

"Diana Ross Presents The Jackson 5" is the debut studio album from Gary, Indiana-based soul family band the Jackson 5, released on the Motown label in December 1969. Less than two weeks before the 1960s were left to be deciphered in the history books, Motown unleashed Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5 (1969) and in doing so fittingly marked the beginning of a new era in crossover pop and soul. For all intents and purposes, this dozen-song disc introduced the world to the sibling talents of Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and most significantly of all, a prepubescent powerhouse named Michael Jackson.

50 Best Songs – The Motown Years: Michael Jackson & The Jackson 5 (also known as 50 Best Songs or The Motown Years) is a 3-disc compilation box set by American singer Michael Jackson, and the group The Jackson 5, released on 2008 by Universal Motown Records celebrating Jackson's 50 birthday. The 50-track album features all of the hits through the Motown years from both the Jackson 5 with “ABC”, “I Want You Back”, “Never Can Say Goodbye” and Michael's solo material including “You've Got A Friend”, “Ben”, “Ain't No Sunshine” and “One Day In Your Life” all of them during their tenure on Motown (1969-1975), with the exception of "Farewell My Summer Love" and "Girl You're So Together", which were released after they left the company (these tracks were released in 1984).

Looking at the cover, which shows Michael and none of his four brothers, one wouldn’t get the idea that this three-disc set is two-thirds Jackson 5 material. While Michael obviously features prominently in the Jackson 5 songs on The Motown Years, he gets one disc to himself. Altogether, this box collects all the essential J5 and Michael singles and more, including 'ABC', 'Never Can Say Goodbye', 'I Found That Girl', 'I Am Love', 'The Love You Save', 'Ben', 'Rockin’ Robin', and 'I Wanna Be Where You Are'. Released in the U.K., it retails for the price of a single disc and is a convenient way to scoop up a large quantity of high-quality ‘70s pop-soul.

This is the Jackson 5 set to get containing all their important hits plus well chosen B-sides and album tracks. Being chronological means you see their development from 1969 to 1975. I will say no more about the early songs other than they are golden concoctions of pop magic perfected by motown's fearsomely high standards. By 1972 their star had cooled slightly and Michael was now a gangly teenager unsure what to do with his now broken voice, though songs like Looking Through the Windows and Little Bitty Pretty One show the fire was still there.
