A TASTE OF HONEY was the debut album from the Disco-Funk group on Capitol Records in 1978 The album features the international Disco smash hit BOOGIE OOGIE OOGIE which is featured here in three different mixes. Produced by Capitol Records’ Funk, Soul and Jazz legends Fonce Mizell & Larry Mizell, the album made #2 on the R&B album chart and #6 on the US Pop album chart, achieving Platinum status in the process. The rare 12″ remixes of the hits Boogie Oogie Oogie and follow-up Disco Dancin’ are included as bonus cuts other single versions. BBR introduce the first ever expanded re-master of this album on CD.
This is already the third album by this new progressive/psychedelic band who seems to improvise a bit around a few self-penned and most often known or lesser known more progressive rock tunes with the domination of the skilful Hammond organ playing (besides a bit of piano and clavinet) of Gianluca Gerlini. Through the prepared arrangements there are also enough surprises in the rhythm section by Alessandro Gimignani with Fario Baini on electric bass.

Frank Martin's virtuosic Ballade (1939) features an acrobatic flute cadenza, roaming melismas and irrepressible cascades, generating a compelling sense of drama. In 1945, while in exile during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, Martinu composed his Flute Sonata, in which the virtues of his distinct musical language are plain to hear - lyrical lines, a rhythmic drive which is both energetic and lively and an effective use of tone colour.

France's Naïve label has heavily promoted the career of the young pianist Lise de la Salle, who was 22 when this recording was made. Her fashion-spread good looks fit with Naïve's design concepts, and she has the ability to deliver the spontaneous, unorthodox performances the label favors. How does she fare in a field extremely crowded with Chopin recitals? Her performances certainly aren't derivative of anyone else, and this live recording from the Semperoper in Dresden (you get a one-minute track of just applause at the end) has a good deal of attention-getting flair. The standout feature of de la Salle's performance, in the four ballades at least, is her orientation toward slow tempos, inventively deployed.
Gustav Mahler’s epic Symphony No. 2 ‘Resurrection’ with Simon Rattle and the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Rundfunkchor Berlin and star soloists Kate Royal and Magdalena Kožená was recorded in concert at Berlin’s Philharmonie in late October 2010. The Symphony, scored for orchestra, soloists and chorus, tackles the great mysteries of life and death and was already among the most successful and popular of Mahler’s symphonies during his lifetime. Not only was the work premiered by the Berliner Philharmoniker (in 1895) but it is an important work in Simon Rattle’s musical trajectory. The partnership of Sir Simon and the BPO in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 portends a ground-breaking new recording.
