Over the last 70 years, in countless books and essays, Hermann Goring has been defined by his crimes and excess during the Third Reich and the Second World War. But his activities as a young career military officer in World War-I have invariably been glossed over - until now. "Hermann Goring - Fighter Ace" is the first in-depth look at Goring's role as a military flyer and air combat leader from 1914 through the end of The Great War, and how those experiences shaped the personality that came to the world's attention in 1939.

The de Havilland Mosquito was a British combat aircraft that excelled in a number of roles during the Second World War. It served with the RAF and many other air forces both in the Second World War and postwar.
The Mosquito was a twin-engine aircraft, powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Merlins with the pilot and navigator sitting side by side. Unorthodox in design, it used a plywood structure of spruce and balsa in a time when wooden construction was considered outmoded. In the conceptual design stage, de Havilland designers found that adding any defensive armament would significantly reduce the aircraft's maximum speed. Realising that the loss in performance was not worth the benefit, the initial bomber version was designed without any guns. The Mosquito was a very versatile aircraft; originally conceived as a fast day bomber, the various roles of the Mosquito included: tactical bomber, pathfinder, day or night fighter, fighter-bomber, intruder, maritime strike and photo reconnaissance aircraft.
The Mosquito inspired admiration from all quarters, including the Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe, Hermann Goring. Goring was due to address a parade in Berlin in the morning of 30 January 1943, commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Nazis' seizure of power. The low level attack of three 105 Squadron Mosquito B Mk. IV on the main Berlin broadcasting station put Reichsmarschall Goring off the air for more than an hour, as he was about to launch into a scheduled speech.

Goering: A Biography

"I've had a good run for my money," said Hermann Goring shortly after his capture by American troops in 1945. In this important biography, Irving amply demonstrates that this gloating summation was justified. The book is the first major effort at documenting the life of the complex, multifaceted Nazi whom Hitler had named as his successor. Working from diaries, letters, medical reports, interviews and archival records, the author describes Goring's experiences as World War I fighter ace, Stormtroop commander in the 1920s, Reichstag official in the 1930s and Luftwaffe chief throughout World War II. New material includes details of Goring's two marriages, his morphine addiction and withdrawal, his role in founding the Gestapo, his secret negotiations with Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain before the war with England, his intrigues to take over command of the German army as well as the air force, and his impressive performance during the Nuremberg war-crimes trials.
