Smokie is an English rock band from Bradford, Yorkshire who found success in the rest of Europe in the 1970s. The jewel in the crown of the RAK label catalog following the decline of the truly glorious glam rock years, Smokie's five-year sequence of hit singles saw them effortlessly ride through the mid- to late-'70s with some of the era's most melodic sounds – "Living Next Door to Alice," "Lay Back in the Arms of Someone" and "I'll Meet You at Midnight" may not set the pulse a-racing with the same giddy aplomb as producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman's work with Mud, Sweet and Suzi Quatro, but still they made fine 45's, and Smokie remained a soft spot in the heart for anybody yearning for the old days to return.

One of those rare acts who actually became stars directly from winning Star Search, country-rockers Sawyer Brown wound up enjoying a long, hit-filled career and remained commercially viable into the new millennium. The group originally grew out of country-pop singer Don King's touring band, with guitarist Bobby Randall and drummer Joe Smyth signing on in 1979, and bassist Jim Scholten, keyboardist Gregg "Hobie" Hubbard, and guitarist/future lead singer Mark Miller all arriving in 1980. King stopped touring in 1981, and the group decided to stay together, naming themselves after the Nashville street where they rehearsed.

Born Caroline Catharina Müller in the Netherlands, she moved with her family to Germany in the late '70s. In 1980, she became a member of the girl quartet Optimal, who issued two singles. During one of the band's concerts in Hamburg, she was approached by songwriter/producer Dieter Bohlen who had just taken the continental charts by storm with his duo Modern Talking…

Gero Körner has always been a pianist interested in different genres. While receiving a classical education from Prof. Valerie Minenkov, he studied jazz piano at the Cologne University of Music under Frank Chastenier (WDR BigBand) and and Prof. John Taylor/GB and won several prices with classical music and jazz projects. He feels home on big pop/rock stages as much as in jazz clubs.
