Fighting Corruption in Public Services: Chronicling Georgia's Reforms (Directions in Development) by Inc World Book
English | Feb. 9, 2012 | ISBN: 0821394754 | 126 Pages | PDF | 3 MB

Since the Rose Revolution at the end of 2003, Georgia has had singular success in fighting corruption in a variety of public services. This book is an attempt to chronicle these efforts and to distil the ‘how to’ of these anti-corruption reforms. The reason corruption in public services had to be fought was clear. What had to be done was also obvious to many. But little has been written on ‘how’ the government made it happen. What were the salient features of Georgia's anti-corruption reforms? Can Georgia’s success with cleaning up its public services be replicated elsewhere or is it unique? And are the achievements to date in Georgia sustainable?

Recorded and produced by Matt Joe Gow and Andy Pollock, ‘Seven Years’ takes its title from the chorus lyrics of ‘Steady Life’ from Matt’s debut album `The Messenger’. ‘The Messenger’ received critical acclaim and forms a solid base, after a long hiatus, for this sophomore solo release. Seven years have also changed some songs. Take ‘Down River’, for example. First recorded during ‘The Messenger’ sessions, the song evolved through years of touring and is reborn on ‘Seven Years’ as a different beast, with driving rhythmic elements set against the backdrop of shimmering alt country tones.

Contemporary R&B vocalist Natasha Mosley, like stylistic predecessors Monica and Ciara, came out of the state of Georgia, specifically Atlanta. The singer released some confident singles, including "Tattoo" (a version of which featured Tyga), before she reached Billboard's R&B chart the first time, as a guest artist on Jeremih's explicitly carnal 2013 single "All the Time." After Mosley added to her discography with appearances on Young Dro's High Times and more independently released solo tracks, she issued Rose Hall, her debut album, in 2015.

From beginning to end, Bangin' 'N' Knockin' reads like a tribute to one of Big In Iowa's seminal influences, Neil Young; or perhaps Crazy Horse would be a more exact template. The album opens with the helpless, Young-themed plea "Neil's on the Radio," and ends with the band's cover of his 1969 classic "Cinnamon Girl," recorded for the Inbetween Records Neil Young tribute album Another Note for You. Bob Burns still sounds like Van Morrison down to the warble emanating from his scarred and broken soul, and the band still provides a pummeling instrumental backing…
