This 2008 live recording with the London Symphony Orchestra is Valery Gergiev's 2nd complete recording of Prokofiev's ballet Romeo & Juliet, the 1st being a 1991 Philips release with the Kirov Orchestra. This performance, like his 1st, is notable for its refinement & lyricism. It's perhaps surprising that Gergiev, known for the wildness & ferocity of his performances of other Prokofiev works, like The Fiery Angel, shows such restraint here. Gergiev clearly understands the ballet as a work in which Prokofiev, writing originally for the Bolshoi, a theater known for its conservatism (although that production was canceled), tailored his score to follow in the tradition of the 3 great Tchaikovsky ballets.
Excellent addition to any prog rock music collection.
Although admittedly a posthumous release, I was very surprised at the rather dismissive tenor of many of the reviews of this album to date. Hopefully this record will be reappraised soon as being a release worthy of anyone's consideration as I feel it does enhance an already rich legacy left behind by this very fine and innovative band. (So what if Charisma wanted to ride the slipstream of the lucrative ELP juggernaut?)
Fierce Heart reunited Jim Capaldi with Steve Winwood and the results are warm to the heart as well as pleasing to the ears. With help from Van Morrison as well, Capaldi put out an album that showed renewed faith in rock after having been living in Brazil absorbing various influences there and raising a family.
Bloodhound Gang is a Collegeville, Pennsylvania-based American comedy alternative/punk band, although it began as a rap group and gradually changed their genre throughout the years. Their songs typically have humorous and off-beat, satirical lyrics that often deal with sexual subjects and contain many puns and innuendos. They are best known for their hit singles "Fire Water Burn" and "The Bad Touch". Formed in 1992, Bloodhound Gang has sold more than 6 million albums.
One Fierce Beer Coaster is a second full-length album, first released on Cheese Factory Records (now Republic Records), and re-released on Geffen Records in 1998.
