After a first recording of Chopin's Preludes for Piano and the First Prize of the Géza Anda Competition in 2015, which allowed him to develop his career, the young American pianist Andrew Tyson designed a new program tailored to his needs: two sonatas, one Waltz Scriabine and Mirrors of Ravel. Andrew Tyson has chosen to bring together these two composers whose language seems to be far away but which nevertheless have many similarities, in particular their use of tone, certain harmonies and dissonances. Alexandre Scriabine and Maurice Ravel also lived in the same city, at the same time, without ever meeting: Debussy, Ravel and the French musical elite of the time considered their Russian colleagues as coarse and uneducated. Yet, listening to their music, even though their approach to piano and composition could not be any different, they use colors in the same way. For Andrew Tyson, "Ravel is a perfectionist of elegance, where every detail is calculated and shines like a crystal; Scriabin is like an erratic flame - passionate, disorderly, spontaneous and erotic."
