Fronted by former model Doro Pesch, the German metal band Warlock consisted of guitarists Rudy Graf and Peter Szigeti, bassist Frank Rittel, and drummer Michael "Micha" Eurich. Originally formed in 1983, the group was heavily influenced by such fellow European metal outfits as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, and Accept, both musically and with their lyric/subject matter. The quintet issued their debut album in 1984, Burning the Witches, following it up with 1985's Hellbound, 1986's True As Steel (the same year Warlock played at England's annual mammoth metal festival, Castle Donnington), and 1987's Triumph and Agony. Warlock called it quits by 1988, as Pesch launched a solo career.

Jade were an R&B vocal group from the 1990's who had a number of hit songs on the charts, with their biggest and most well known song on the pop charts being "Don't Walk Away". They also received success through their songs "I Wanna Love You", "One Woman", "Looking For Mr. Do Right", "5-4-3-2 (Yo! Time Is Up)" and "Every Day Of The Week". In between their studio albums, their record label worked with Black Entertainment Television (BET) for a TV special, which turned into a live album. They found themselves working with the jazz/rock band Chicago for their 22nd album, Night & Day (Big Band), after releasing album #2 but that also seemed to curse them. When they were about to begin working on their third album, that is when Giant/Reprise dropped them, which would lead to their break-up.

Veruca Salt is an alternative rock group of the 1990s and 2000s. Veruca Salt was formed alongside the friendship of Louise Post and Nina Gordon. Introduced by Gordon's good friend, actress Lili Taylor, Gordon and Post quickly bonded and formed what is now known as Veruca Salt. Originally, the band was an Indigo Girls-inspired acoustic act, but the women quickly realized this wasn't their sound. They quickly enlisted bass player Steve Lack and eventually Gordon's brother Jim Shapiro joined as a drummer, even though he originally was just drumming as a favor to his sister. Veruca Salt released a self-funded demo tape and shopped it to labels, and began to play a handful of small club shows.
