Days of FreeMan is a retrospective album that picks up where Divine Travels ended, further exploring the identity of saxophonist James Brandon Lewis. The album is a soundscape inspired by and channeling, but not duplicating, the fragmented sounds of his early childhood days in Buffalo, NY, on Freeman Street, where his ears were washed with early '90s hip-hop. Through sound, each track explores vital themes of earlier times and today - social, political, scientific and religious. On Days of FreeMan, Lewis is joined by electric bass legend Jamaaladeen Tacuma and drummer Rudy Royston. James Brandon Lewis was raised in the church, which formed the core of the saxophonist's spiritual outlook. While many musicians are inspired by the church, Lewis says that it's most important impact was not musical but personal, laying the foundation for his creative approach.

An excellent altoist and soprano-saxophonist, Brandon Fields mostly plays commercial music on this set. On "Studio Cafe Blues," he shows what he can do in a creative jazz context, but otherwise the music is rather mundane, with long melody statements, unimaginative rhythms, and a great deal of safe playing; this version of John Coltrane's "Equinox" is a misfire. Although there are some moments of interest (Fields does attractive tones on his instruments, and the musicianship of the players is high), Brandon Fields has shown elsewhere that he is capable of much better.

Tenor Robert White sings 28 romantic songs spanning the century by both native American and immigrant composers, from Amy Beach in 1899 to Marc Marder's Walt Whitman setting of 1996. There are many favourites (or 'favorites') here from the musical stage, including Friml's Rose Marie and Victor Herbert's Ah! Sweet Mystery of Life. Malotte's famous setting of The Lord's Prayer is also included. The title of the CD is taken from Samuel Barber's beautiful setting of James Agee (the poet of Knoxville, Summer of 1924).
