For the first time ever in his almost thirty-year career as a solo artist, AXEL RUDI PELL welcomes a special guest star on one of his albums: rock legend BONNIE TYLER has recorded a stunning duet with ARP’s longtime singer Johnny Gioeli. AXEL RUDI PELL is justly proud of his new single ‘Love’s Holding On’, saying: Bonnie Tyler only records songs she personally likes. So I wrote this tune just for her and she really loved it. She came to the studio and we recorded it. The result is amazing ! If I hadn’t been a fan already, I would have turned into one instantly. Of course this is not the only brand new track. We recorded a cover version of Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire”…
Obscure trumpeter Axel Dörner joins legendary demolition experts, percussionist Michael Zerang and cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm, for nearly an hour of furious little sounds on this fascinating recording. Zerang and Lonberg-Holm have a concentrated history of intense interaction where boundaries know no limits. The trumpeter eschews the usual sounds from the brass and instead revels in brushstrokes of noise, air, and gurgles. The results barely resemble the horn from which the sounds emanate. Dörner appears subservient to Lonberg-Holm and Zerang, each of whom has been down similar paths with the other before.
After the very successful Live document “Magic Moments” (it went to #1 in the German and Swedish DVD charts, #4 in Switzerland, #7 in Austria, and #17 in the Netherlands) it was about time for a new studio album! Steamhammer/SPV will release our new album “Game Of Sins” worldwide on January 15th, USA on January 22nd!
Three hours before the sun went down, creating a beautiful atmosphere at the ´Bang Your Head´ festival in Balingen/Germany, where Axel Rudi Pell celebrated his 25th anniversary as a solo artist with a once-in-a-life-time performance. The CDs and DVDs document a show that is unlikely to ever be seen again in this constellation – a special present the protagonist had worked hard for. As Axel is an early bird, the whole organisation was fairly easy. Of course there were rehearsals, but only one day before the show. Over fifty minutes worth of footage from those remarkable sessions are featured on the DVD and Blu-ray versions of this package. During those sessions Axel realized that something unique was happening.
Not too long ago (a year or so) and while Axel Rudi Pell, was touring in support of his latest opus “Into the Storm”, the “25th Anniversary” of his came up and with it, the idea to celebrate the proceedings in a special way, so the stage was set, for a live performance at that years installation of “Bang Your Head” festival in Balingen/Germany, that was special and memorable for a variety of reasons. For the first time in absolutely ages, Axel, did perform a short four song set with his original band Steeler (not to be confused with the Ron Keel led American “Steeler” which also featured guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen) then a set that utilized as many of the studio singers as possible, was performed, with them, singing their “own” era’s material and finally a bunch of classic rock tracks were performed by the band enlisting the aid of some special guests/friends. All in all the whole show lasted for almost three hours and celebrated the long history of ARP, in the best way imaginable!
