In combination with the CD-ROM, which contains all 173 illustrations as rotatable 3D models, this atlas introduces an innovative quality into the conception of spatial structures. It has never been so easy and fascinating to understand the architecture of the human brain!
The Human Brain During the Third Trimester (Atlas of Human Central Nervous System Development) by Shirley A. Bayer

Publisher: CRC Press; 1 edition (December 30, 2003) | ISBN: 0849314216 | Pages: 392 | PDF | 117 MB

The second volume in the Atlas of Human Central Nervous System Development series, The Human Brain During the Third Trimester provides new information about immature features of the perinatal brain that have never before been identified. With no other atlas available on the development of the human brain during the third trimester, this volume fills a large void in the current literature. This user-friendly survey of the complex structural processes that occur during human CNS development gives you a visual record of nearly every structure in the brain during the third trimester.

Pediatric Brain and Spine, An Atlas of MRI and Spectroscopy by L.M. Ketonen
Publisher: Springer; 1 edition (December 22, 2004) | ISBN: 3540213406 | Pages: 250 | PDF | 130 MB

This practical MR imaging atlas covers all aspects of pediatric brain and spine imaging including contemporary techniques such as diffusion imaging, fetal imaging and MR spectroscopy. The book consists of 12 chapters, starting with the developing pediatric brain and continuing with metabolic, congenital, genetic, traumatic, inflammatory and neoplastic processes of the brain and spine. Each entity is comprehensively illustrated with multiple top-quality images and accompanied by clinical history, a short discussion and the most pertinent references. There are extensive illustrations of MR imaging of child abuse. The authors are currently all at the University of Rochester, New York, but have long experience of pediatric neuroradiology from an international perspective, which guarantees a broad view of the subject. The book is valuable for radiologists, pediatricians, neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroscientists and pediatric neurologists, as well as for physicians in training in these areas. This richly illustrated atlas is a quick clinical reference for all involved in pediatric neuroimaging.

The brain in the second trimester, the subject of Volume 3, is nearing anatomical maturity throughout the brainstem. In contrast, the neurogenesis and neuronal migration are still in progress in the cerebral cortex and cerebellum. Consequently, the authors chose to focus on the migration, sojourning, and settling of the neuronal populations belonging to these immature structures. These observations can help researchers develop a better understanding of normal brain development at this formative stage. In this volume, the authors offer consideration of a new concept regarding human cortical development: the identification of the stratified transitional field (STF), which continues to play an important role in later stages. Until recently regarded as simply an intermediate and transitional layer of little significance, modern imaging techniques have shown that it is in the STF where cortical neural connections are first specified. Among other salient points, the development of this field may well bring to light those disruptions during development that lead to cerebral palsy.
