The U.S. Office of War Information (OWI) was created during World War II (WWII). Part of its role was to oversee U.S. propaganda and promote patriotism. As part of this role, the OWI produced 267 newsreels called the 'United News.’ These newsreels were shown throughout the U.S., but were targeted to overseas viewers. The reels were released in several languages, including German. However, they were primarily distributed to allied and neutral countries.

The air war over occupied Europe and Nazi Germany is illustrated from the unique and dramatic point of view of gun cameras mounted on Allied aircraft. The story begins as American bombers fall prey to Nazi flak and fighters and continues through the recapture of European skies as seen from American P-51 Mustangs and P-47 Thunderbolts and British Spitfires. Also depicted are breathtaking images of ground strafings and crews coaxing crippled bombers into perilous belly landings.

From the author of Pacific Payback comes the gripping true story of the Cactus Air Force and how this rugged crew of dive bombers helped save Guadalcanal and won the war. November 1942: Japanese and American forces have been fighting for control of Guadalcanal, a small but pivotal island in Japan's expansion through the South Pacific. Both sides have endured months of grueling battle under the worst circumstances: hellish jungles, meager rations, and tropical diseases, which have taken a severe mental and physical toll on the combatants.
