In this series of tutorials we'll learn how to quickly get up and running with modeling, texturing, lighting and rendering in 3ds Max. We'll start off by learning how to navigate in the viewports and how to create basic shapes using splines. Then we'll jump into some basic modeling techniques like duplicating, attaching and smoothing geometry. After that, we'll discuss some of the most commonly used modeling tools like extrude, bridge, chamfer and inset. Then we'll take a look at the process of unwrapping the UVs of the arcade cabinet to allow us to apply a custom texture.

When learning a new software package, sometimes it's good to just jump in with both feet and create something. In this training we'll do just that as we create a little creature from scratch. We'll cover methods of working with polygon geometry using several of Blender's modeling tools. We'll learn to shape and sculpt our mesh using a multi-resolution workflow. We'll add high-frequency detail using noise patterns and learn to assign some simple materials to our objects. To finish, we'll add a couple of lights and create a quick render.

Throughout these lessons we'll take our first steps in PFTrack. We will go over PFTrack's user interface as well as learn how to tackle common shots such as a distorted hand-held footage and a nodal-pan shot. Once you get familiarized with these techniques, you will be able to take your matchmoving skills to the next level. These techniques will greatly improve your abilities as a matchmover.

When learning a new software package, sometimes it's good to just jump in with both feet and start to create something. In this tutorial we'll build a small insect-like mechanical surveillance drone. We'll cover the unique method of working with polygons and mesh items. We'll learn to shape and sculpt our mesh using falloffs, transforms, and a MODO's powerful modeling tools. We'll also create some simple UVs and learn to work with materials and textures.

In this series of tutorials, we'll take you through your first day working in Mudbox. When learning a new software package, sometimes it's good to just jump in with both feet and create something. In this course we'll do just that as we create a little creature from base geometry to a finished, painted sculpt. We'll cover methods of working with geometry. We'll learn to shape and sculpt our mesh. We'll add high-frequency detail using layers and talk about creating UVs. We'll also paint a texture for our creature, blending together multiple paint layers. We'll learn to use photographs to paint textures and learn to paint texture channels like specularity, gloss, and incandescence.

To get started we’ll first learn how to create a MARI project to work in and how to equip it with things we’ll need like channels and shaders. From here we’ll learn how to target geometry by selecting it and how we can begin using the Paint Brush to paint a diffuse color map for an asset. Once we’ve finished painting our color map, we’ll move on and learn how to quickly generate a normal map as well as a specular map for our firefly. When we wrap up our firefly’s textures, we’ll learn how to add and begin creating a color map and normal map for another piece of geometry for our scene.
