…Tanski’s talent makes the Variations de Concert an enjoyable closer. In this, the aria “Io son ricco e tu sei bella” from Donizetti’s Elisire d’Amore is given the usual 19th century virtuoso treatment by Henselt, but Tanski never gives in to flash. He evokes a broad range of emotions, always managing to keep things from becoming kitsch. By himself, Tanski is worthy of a warm recommendation…

This album is quite unusual. Recorded shortly after Nat King Cole's death, pianist Oscar Peterson takes vocals on all but one of the dozen selections, sounding almost exactly like Cole. Peterson, who rarely ever sang, is very effective on the well-rounded program, whether being backed by a big band (arranged by Manny Albam) on half of the selections or re-creating both the spirit of the Nat King Cole Trio and his own group of the late '50s during a reunion with guitarist Herb Ellis and bassist Ray Brown.

"Whenever this trio plays, drop everything and go hear them!" hailed the Boston Globe on the occasion of The Boston Trio's Tanglewood debut at Ozawa Hall. Since their formation in 1997, the trio has quickly become one of today's most exciting chamber ensembles. Acclaimed for their "rich and rewarding, absolutely balanced" sound (Virginia Gazette), these virtuosic and profound musicians are committed to creating exceptional and daring performances of standard and contemporary repertoire.

After about a year of preparing their material, in February of 2013 Sebastian Spanache Trio went into the studio to record their first official album 'HUMANIZED'. From the first bars of 'Argentina' you can tell this is not going to be your usual jazz endeavor: the tunes are skillfully crafted, with intricate meters and complex, unexpected forms. The influences borrow from a wide musical palette, with grooves and atmospheres suggestive of ambient or electronic music. 'Seven is Your Friend' starts hot only to regain balance within the unique vitality of improvisations, in-the-moment dialogue and attention to the architecture of musical storytelling. And 'Red' calls to mind an ethereal journey through present-times music that goes beyond what you would typically hear in a 'classic' jazz piano trio.

Despite stints with Orchestras and duos Peterson loved the trio format best. Touring the world in the early Sixties with Ray Brown on Double Bass and Ed Thigpen on Drums the band settled in Chicago for a week long Residency, subsequently recording a four LP set of their performances. The two recordings here are considered the cream of the crop consisting of compositions from right across the 20th century along with two of Peterson's own, masterful creations. Originally released on Verve Records in 1961.

Touring with the Micky Curtis Band, Yamamoto had the chance to explore several international experiences that he would later use on this album as he worked with this band in France, England and Switzerland. On this SACD, the Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio plays two of Tsuyoshi's own blues improvisations followed by jazz ballads that became standards for the trio. Yamamoto's skill and his jazz feeling adds that certain touch of liveliness and spontaneity and makes Midnight Sugar a unique experience. Available for the first time on the SACD format, this features latest CD technology developed by Sony.
