The debut studio album by Sisters Of Mercy. First and Last and Always proved to be a major record and extremely influential in shaping the gothic rock genre. On this new "Digital Edition" sound quality wise this isn't any improvement on earlier versions and could do with being made louder. But as an album there are lots of great tracks here and the bonus tracks especially after hours are worth downloading if you don't already own them.

One of England's leading goth bands of the 1980s, the Sisters of Mercy play a slow, gloomy, ponderous hybrid of metal and psychedelia, often incorporating dance beats; the one constant in the band's career has been deep-voiced singer Andrew Eldritch. (There is some disagreement as to whether the group took its name from an order of Catholic nuns or from the Leonard Cohen song of the same name.) Eldritch originally formed the band in 1980 with guitarist Gary Marx and recorded its first single with a drum machine dubbed Doktor Avalanche. Guitarist Ben Gunn and bassist Craig Adams were added to make live gigs feasible, and the Sisters built a reputation through several singles and EPs. Gunn left the band in 1983 and was replaced by Wayne Hussey.

Long-buried family secrets, a packet of old love letters, and a lost manuscript plunge Grace into a decades-old mystery about a scandalous party at Alban House during which a world-famous author took his own life and Grace's aunt disappeared without a trace…

James D. G. Dunn, "The Justice of God: A Fresh Look at the Old Doctrine of Justification by Faith"
English | 2007 | ISBN: 0802807976 | PDF | 96 pages | 3,4 MB

The biblical theme of justification by faith is all too often regarded as a consumer commodity, as a private transaction between God and the individual. The result is that the social dimension is left, often with disastrous consequences, to market forces.
