An Impossible Choice - Jorge Salcedo was trapped. For years, he had climbed the ladder inside the Cali drug cartel, the world's most powerful crime syndicate, and risen to Head of Security. But he'd kept clean, avoided the dirty work, managed to sleep at night. Until now. He'd finally received the order he'd long dreaded, and it meant one thing: kill or be killed.

"Little Girl" is a rock & roll classic. With its sneering vocals, vague threats, crude chords and rhythms, it's a menacing, swagger masterpiece of garage rock. It's also the only good thing the Syndicate of Sound ever recorded. Little Girl – The History of the Syndicate of Sound compiles nearly everything the group recorded, yet none of it comes close to matching the power of their hit single; it's a mess of weak originals and limp covers. The patience of even the most dedicated garage rock fan will be tested by the disc.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1981, the seminal indie rock band The Dream Syndicate was founded by current members Steve Wynn and Dennis Duck. With its widely celebrated 1982 debut "The Days of Wine and Roses", the band soon emerged at the forefront of the 1980s college-rock scene. "How Did I Find Myself Here?" is the band's fifth studio album, their first since 1988. This reunion album comes across like vintage Dream Syndicate, but with a 100% 2017 sound. A sonic upgrade which will enrapture early fans and allow new ones an easy taste of this uncompromising and venomous rock'n'roll.

The SYNDICATE, consisting of former members of the Zawinul Syndicate, some new guys and special guests vocalist Sabine Kabongo (Zawinul Syndicate, Zap Mama, Trilok Gurtu) and keyboarder Eric Mouquet ("Deep Forest") (both with a Grammy of their own) have a fresh look at some Zawinul composition not everyone might know. It's a blast. A lot is going on. You can hear the band enjoyed the recording. Zawinul might be dead, but his music keeps grooving (and still growing on me after all those years). After hearing this album a few dozen times I am still not tired of it. It might be the best low risk/high reward investment available out there.

Although Zawinul tried touring alone in the immediate wake of the breakup of Weather Report, he soon returned to a group format, first with Weather Update in 1986 and a couple of years later with the raffishly named Zawinul Syndicate. The multi-national Syndicate basically expands the Weather Report format into a sextet, with a rock guitar (Scott Henderson) replacing the sax, an extra percussionist on board to join WR's Alex Acuna, and more vocal support then ever – and if a Wayne Shorter-like melody line was needed, Zawinul would play it himself on his new Korg Pepe wind synthesizer. If anything…
