The groups sweat-soaked, take-no prisoners style has converted many, including Paste Magazine, who named St. Paul & The Broken Bones one of their 2013 Best Of Whats Next artists, and NPR Music, who included the album in their Under The Radar Albums Preview. 2014 release, the 11th album from the award-winning vocalist. ORIGINAL finds the Los Angeles-based artist turning in her finest recorded vocal performances, co-writing a majority of tracks for the first time and testing herself by taking risks along with her production foil Dave Darling, whose credits include Glen Campbell, Brian Setzer, Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx and Stray Cats, and whose instincts compelled Magness to tap her deepest creative powers and led the songs to sonically unpredictable places. ORIGINAL is Janiva's first release since 2012. During the last six years Magness has won four Blues Music Award's for Contemporary Blues Female Artist of the Year plus the B.B. King Entertainer of the Year and Song Of the Year and has become a fixture of the Americana music scene alongside such similar tough `n' edgy roots-based artists as Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and St. Paul and the Broken Bones.

In 1965, Scottish couple Hamish and Anne Gow created history when they became the first kayakers to make the treacherous 40 plus mile sea journey from the Western Isles to the mystical islands of St. Kilda. 47 years later, and in June 2012, two women from the Stornoway Canoe Club on the Isle of Lewis, Dolina Swanson and Christine Stewart, attempted to re-create this historic voyage. Armed with the original boat plans, the club commissioned the experienced Lewis boat builder, Angus Smith, to re-create the original plywood and canvas Clyde double kayak - a far cry from the modern kayaks of today. With the build starting in May, time wasn't on their side.
