Paidarion is a new group from Finland playing Folk-influenced progressive Rock with gospel-oriented vocals. Some members from the groups Mist Season and Progression have participated in the Paidarion-project. Although Paidarion's music is related to Mist Season, it relies more on rock and ballads. The CD has been mixed by the Finnish Prog Legend, Tommi Liuhala (who ever since the 70's has worked with for ex. Wigwam, Kalevala and Haikara). Hauras Silta-CD contains 12 melodic songs from different situations in life. The music could be described as prog/gospel with country- etc. influences. The instrumental parts of experienced musicians color the vocal parts of Kristina Johnson and Jari Markkula with many kinds of lights and shadows…

Hailing from Finland is Paidarion, one of the more unique acts on the modern progressive rock scene. Their sound consists of various styles of prog rock, as well as a liberal dosing of jazz, funk, pop, and a host of other genres. Behind the Curtains is their second full-length album, and in spite of its diversity and complex nature, it manages to remain surprisingly accessible and user-friendly. Paidarion have crafted a pretty enjoyable record this time around, and anyone who enjoys the more eclectic side of modern art rock should be sure to give this a listen.

What a nice surprise to get a new album from this Finnish band, already five years since their second album Behind the Curtains. But as the extended title suggests, this is a special project. Some background information first: in April 2015 the core members of Paidarion (drummer Kimmo Pörsti and bassist Jan-Olof Strandberg) invited several friends from various countries to join them on a small tour in southern Finland. These friends were the US vocalist Jenny Darren, British hard-rock bassist Kev Moore, Hungarian guitarist Ákos Bogáti-Bokor (leader of the bands Yesterdays and Tabula Smaragdina), Finnish electronic music -oriented musician Otso Pakarinen, and Robert Webb (best known as the frontman of the 70's band ENGLAND)…

Though Finnish master musicians Maria Kalaniemi and Timo Alakotila both play in many bands, something remarkable happens when they strip the music down to duets. The chemistry between the two emerges, creating a sound that is incredibly warm and intimate. On Åkerö — their first album as a duo since 2001’s Ambra — Kalaniemi (free-bass, five-row, button accordion) and Alakotila (pianist best known for his work with JPP) play like one musician. Their intricate arrangements showcase a wide dynamic range, from bold climaxes to subtle pauses. There’s probably no better example of this than the title track. It opens the album with the accordion playing both melody and counter melody as Alakotila’s piano enters almost imperceptibly, slowly growing in intensity. The music crescendos and decrescendos, continually and dramatically changing direction but always returning to the anchor of the opening melodies — all in a stunning five minutes.

"The new work of Max Carletti is greatly remarkable. On one handside is intentionally avoiding to get into hard experiments, on the other side there is a wish to place it within the traditional and brave intersection with the masters of the past.
