Following up their 2015 debut, Element, Nashville-based quartet Backup Planet experienced a tough year, working through a crash that destroyed their touring van and equipment, as well as the loss of a close friend and even a burglary. But the band used the trials to forge their sophomore album, Reactions, continuing their penchant for soaring, expansive music, blending rock, funk, jamtronica and more. On the album, Backup Planet voice some frustrations over the unpredictable nature of their chosen profession through songs like “Different Life,” imagining what a more stable calling might provide.

An exceptional project from Manfred Schunke (vocals, electronic effects) and Klaus Schulze (drums) with Apama Chakravarti (on harmonium, tamboura, vocals), Ed Key (vocals, instruments). The concept is about Man creation and human, technological evolution throw ages. Musically the music alternates vibrant dronescapings, cosmic, electro-acoustic noises, esoteric doom like choirs and weird dreamy folk evocations. Their interlocking sound can be compared in some aspects to Organisation's embryonic electronic approach, Klaus Schulze first efforts in agitated drones and Popol Vuh / Deuter mystical sense of composition. Hermetic but monumental and now cult.

1989 was the best year ever for the Melodic Rock / AOR genre. The most precious records appeared at that time and unfortunately many bands without a major label support promoting their releases get sunken into oblivion. One of these was Swiss ULTRANITE only album "I Want My Own Planet". All members from Ultranite worked previously in central Europe on different bands and writing songs for others, as Andy Boulton's Tokyo Blade or Andy Marc. The type of Melodic Rock crafted by Ultranite has many points in common with the Scandinavian scene, especially in the AOR keyboard infusions into the music.

A clever alternate spelling of their namesake and bass player, this metal outfit forcefully demonstrates that the greatest metal recordings of all time owe much of their heaviness to Geezer Butler. G//Z/R even appears to target Tony Iommi – whose contribution to Black Sabbath is often described in more significant terms than that of Butler – on the vicious "Giving Up the Ghost." With more than enough power to eclipse any sans-Butler Black Sabbath or Iommi project, this 1995 release proves its creative point.
