Literature Against Criticism: University English and Contemporary Fiction in Conflict

Literature Against Criticism: University English and Contemporary Fiction in Conflict by Martin Paul Eve
English | Oct. 17, 2016 | ISBN: 1783742739 | 252 Pages | PDF | 2 MB

This is a book about the power game currently being played out between two symbiotic cultural institutions: the university and the novel. As the number of hyper-knowledgeable literary fans grows, students and researchers in English departments waiver between dismissing and harnessing voices outside the academy. Meanwhile, the role that the university plays in contemporary literary fiction is becoming increasingly complex and metafictional, moving far beyond the ‘campus novel’ of the mid-twentieth century.

In France between 1641 and 1782 the romance developed into the novel. Author's intensive study of the novel, particularly during the critical period 1700-1720, shows that an important movement toward nineteenth century realism was taking place. To trace this development five phenomena was selected - time, space, names, money, and the narrator - and follows their treatment throughout the period to show why romance tended toward the novel.

Perturbation Treadmill Training in Parkinson’s Disease: A Novel Approach for Neurological Rehabilitation

Perturbation Treadmill Training in Parkinson’s Disease: A Novel Approach for Neurological Rehabilitation By Sarah Klamroth
English | PDF | 2017 (2018 Edition) | 41 Pages | ISBN : 3658205423 | 867.99 KB

Sarah Klamroth describes a novel treadmill training device, which applies additional perturbations to the walking surface and thereby simulating an uneven surface. In a pilot study the author investigated the immediate effects on gait and postural control in patients with Parkinson’s Disease after a single training session of perturbation treadmill training. The results show that perturbation treadmill training is feasible for mildly to moderately affected Parkinson patients, and that one training session led to improvements in overground walking speed and gait variability in these patients.
