Live archive release from the veteran singer/songwriter, an album of unreleased live performances from late 1970. The album is the latest in Young's ongoing Archives Performance Series, and it collects recordings made during the Canadian singer/songwriter's intimate six-show solo stand at The Cellar Door, a venue in Washington D.C., between November 30th and December 2nd, 1970. Since the gigs were only a few months after his timeless third solo album, After The Gold Rush, was released and five of the thirteen tracks here are from that very record, including 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' and 'Don't Let It Bring You Down'.

The second volume of Neil Young's Archives series, Live at Massey Hall, preserves a 1971 acoustic show at the Toronto venue. It may seem to cover familiar ground to the outside observer who assumes all solo acoustic Young concerts sound the same, but that, of course, is not the case with an artist as mercurial and willful as Young. Live at Massey Hall is a remarkably rich set of songs, touching on nearly every aspect of Young's personality, whether it's his sweetness, his sensitivity, his loneliness, or even his often-neglected sense of fun. This concert was a legendary bootleg for nearly four decades, and its release is something special: it adds detail, color, and texture to a familiar chapter of his career, rendering it fresh once more.

All the kudos Neil Young earned for Rust Never Sleeps he lost for Live Rust, the double-LP live album released four months later. In retrospect, however, Live Rust, now a single 74-minute CD, comes off as an excellent Neil Young live album and career summary, starting with the early song "Sugar Mountain" and running through then-new songs like "My My, Hey Hey (Out of the Blue)" and "Powderfinger." Young is effective in both his acoustic folksinger and hard-rocking Crazy Horse bandleader modes. The various distractions of the concert itself and the film, such as the pretentious props and cowled roadies, are absent, and what's left is a terrific Neil Young concert recording.

It was a wild night.

Amsterdam `89 is a 1990 Neil Young bootleg of a live show recorded in Amsterdam, Netherlands on 10 December, 1989. I had purchased this back then because I had already bought some Beatles and Pink Floyd CD's on The Swingin' Pig label, as I was also familiar with Trademark Of Quality. I decided to take a chance and buy this one, and since it was of soundboard quality, I was satisfied. The CD involves two sets, both acoustic. Songs 1-8 are the first set, songs 9 to 15 are the second. This was in support of his album Freedom.

Rust Never Sleeps is an album by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young and American band Crazy Horse. Most of the album was recorded live, then overdubbed in the studio. Young used the title "rust never sleeps" as a concept for his tour with Crazy Horse to avoid artistic complacency and try more progressive, theatrical approaches to performing live.
