The 11th studio long-player from the veteran hard rockers, the aptly, though rather lazily, named XI marks the return of vocalist Mike Howe to the Metal Church fold – Ronny Munroe left the group in 2014 to "pursue other interests." Hearing Howe's sinister and instantly recognizable banshee wail reunited with showrunner/guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof's taut, melodic riffing is a thrill, especially for longtime fans…

Hanging In The Balance can be considered Metal Church’s coming of age. They really hit their creative prime here. The lyrics and music are well refined. The production is crystal clear thanks in part to producer Paul O’Neill, famous for his excellent work with Florida metal band Savatage. This album is highly recommended to anyone who is looking for a great thrash/power metal record as well as any REAL fan of Metal Church…

There's often a fine line between hard rock and heavy metal, but with Metal Church, there was never any doubt – they were always very much a metal band. When major record companies were quick to sign faceless Warrant clones and Poison imitators, Metal Church stuck to its guns and never lost its integrity…

Formed Seattle in 1982, Metal Church consisted of vocalist David Wayne, guitarists Kurdt Vanderhoof and Craig Wells, bassist Duke Erickson, and drummer Kirk Arrington. Metal Church was formed when the thrash metal genre was still evolving. Best exemplified on their early releases, Metal Church's guitar work and vocals were very aggressive while retaining a degree of melodicism that many other American thrash bands had abandoned. As a result, it is often debated among critics and fans whether the band's sound is best described as thrash metal, power metal, or a combination of these two heavy metal subgenres. Lyrically, the band's themes are usually dark, with early topics such as conflict and fear expanding to philosophical and social commentary later on. After releasing five full-length albums and touring extensively throughout the '80s and early '90s, Metal Church disbanded in 1993, but decided to re-form five years later. Having endured numerous lineup changes since, they are now working with their third vocalist, and have released four more studio albums.
