A Salty Dog is the third studio album by English progressive rock band Procol Harum, released in 1969. The album has an ostensibly nautical theme, as indicated by its cover (a pastiche of the famous Player's Navy Cut cigarette pack). Interspersed with straight rock, blues and pop items, A Salty Dog showed a slight change of direction from its predecessors, being thematically less obscure. The title track itself was the first Procol track to use an orchestra.

Harry Allen on tenor saxophone is an added bonus. These well-known autumn themed songs are refined and cleverly arranged with determined sensibilities and performed with loving lyricism.

She performs standards such as "April In Paris," "April Showers," "I Love Paris," and more, as well as "Sakura Sakura" which is a Japanese traditional song about cherry blossoms, which she sings in Japanese. A stellar team of New York-based musicians supports the leader. Nicki's sister Lisa Parrott is prominently featured on soprano and baritone saxophone, and the participation of the great young trumpeter Dominick Farinacci is a welcome surprise. Another twist is bassist Martin Wind, who plays cello instead of his usual instrument in this album.
