British keyboard player and singer Roy Young played in rock & roll idol Cliff Bennett's Rebel Rousers in the '60s. When they broke up in early 1970, he formed his own Roy Young Band but they never really made it. They struggled on, with several line-up changes, until June 1974 when they finally called it a day.

Features 24 bit remastering and comes with a mini-description. A wonderful live set from Gary Burton – originally issued only in Japan, but a wonderful record that stands strongly with Gary's classic early 70s work for Atlantic and ECM Records! The group's a quartet – and has Gary's vibes alongside warm guitar lines from Sam Brown – a player whose sense of tone and timing really echoes that of Burton – cascading fresh sounds one minute, laying back in waves the next – always hitting the right balance of space and tone to keep things right.

Trumpeter Blue Mitchell made his name when he was a member of the Horace Silver Quintet, who were at the vanguard of the soul jazz movement in the late 50s-early 60s and recorded several best-selling albums for Blue Note: Finger Poppin', Blowin' The Blues Away and The Tokyo Blues. When the Quintet disbanded, Mitchell formed his own combo and signed to Blue Note direct. Over the next five years he made eight albums including The Thing To Do and Down With It! which continued to define soulful jazz. He championed young talent, employing drummer Al Foster and pianist Chick Corea. In the early 70s he signed to Bob Shad's Mainstream Records at a point where he was a successful session player, utilised by John Mayall and Ray Charles, among others. This, his debut album as solo artist, is a magnificent, largely acoustic, session unusual for this period. Its five tracks of swinging soul jazz, include Mi Hermano, a big club spin for Gilles Peterson.

This 1971 self-titled debut may stun fans who are accustomed to the hard-driving rock and gritty power ballads that characterize Nazareth's more popular work. Nazareth is a diverse collection of songs that points the way towards the pop leanings that would dominate the group's later output. Although it lacks the consistency of later albums like Hair of the Dog and Expect No Mercy, fans of 1970s rock will find plenty to enjoy on this surprisingly adventurous disc…

Essential: a masterpiece of Rock music
Who would have thought old Phil Mogg, Pete Way and Co. would be responsible for one the greatest psychedelic long players ever released?, but yes folks this record called “UFO 2/Flying” is a head trip of the highest order that every space rock freak MUST own!!!
UFO started out in 1968 and were at one time known as The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, they later called themselves Acid finally settling on UFO which was a tribute to the legendary UK nightclub. The group cut their teeth playing covers by people like The Yardbirds, Kinks, John Lennon and The Small Faces among others, somehow they got the attention of Equals guitarist Eddy Grant who was branching out into production and talent procurement, Grant invited the group to record at Orange Studios and the group managed to land a recording deal with the tiny Beacon imprint. A debut album “UFO 1” was issued in 1970 to little fanfare ( though it has been reported UK DJ Jon Peel thought highly of the group.)

In 1971, a little film by the name of Friends became a huge commercial success around the world. Universally denounced by critics, director Lewis Gilbert’s tale of two teenagers in love in the Camargue charmed and delighted untold thousands. The album soundtrack by Elton John and Bernie Taupin also became a hit… After her father dies, 14-and-a-half-year-old Michelle Latour (Anicée Alvina) travels to Paris to stay with a female cousin. Not only is she made to feel most unwanted, but her cousin’s boyfriend makes gross sexual advances towards her in a scene that takes a strongly moralistic attitude to age-different sex. Michelle is half-naked in front of a mirror; the cinematic parallel…

What does the energy harnessed through orgasm have to do with the state of communist Yugoslavia circa 1971? Only counterculture filmmaker extraordinaire Dušan Makavejev has the answers (or the questions). His surreal documentary-fiction collision WR: Mysteries of the Organism begins as an investigation into the life and work of controversial psychologist and philosopher Wilhelm Reich and then explodes into a free-form narrative of a beautiful young Slavic girl’s sexual liberation. Banned upon its release in the director’s homeland, the art-house smash WR is both whimsical and bold in its blending of politics and sexuality.
