Kenneth Ray "Kenny" Rogers is an American singer-songwriter, actor, record producer, and entrepreneur. He is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Though he has been most successful with country audiences, Rogers has charted more than 120 hit singles across various music genres, topped the country and pop album charts for more than 200 individual weeks in the United States alone and has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He was voted the "Favorite Singer of All-Time" in a 1986 joint poll by readers of both USA Today and People. He has received numerous such awards as the AMAs, Grammys, ACMs and CMAs, as well as a lifetime achievement award for a career spanning six decades in 2003.
Kenny Rogers compilations tend to drift in and out of print, yet in a sense it doesn't matter much, because most featured most of the big hits. However, very few contained them all and, as of 2004, the only collection in print that contained all his big hits, from the First Edition through the mid-'80s, was 1999's four-disc box set Through the Years, which was too exhaustive for all but dedicated Rogers fans. So, there was a need for a new, relatively concise collection that featured all the hits; hence Capitol's 42 Ultimate Hits, a double-disc set that spans Kenny's entire career, from the First Edition to two new tracks, including a duet with Whitney Duncan.
Digitally remastered reissue of the Country music king's 1983 debut album for RCA Records that was written and produced by Bee Gees Barry & Maurice Gibb. The set yielded the best selling Country single of all time (at this writing), "Islands In The Stream", a duet with Dolly Parton.
Country music icon Kenny Rogers offers up his first Christmas collection since 1998's Christmas from the Heart. His sixth holiday-themed album overall, Once Again It's Christmas features a number of guest performers including Alison Krauss, Sugarland singer Jennifer Nettles, vocal group Home Free, pianist Jim Brickman, and country-pop duo Winfield's Locket. The festive collection marks Rogers' return to recording holiday music, a genre he's been quite close to over the years both sentimentally and commercially.
This particular Kenny Rogers collection focuses on the singer's EMI America chart entries from the late '70s and early '80s. The 12-track sampling includes "Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer," "She Believes in Me," "Coward of the County," "Lady," and "The Gambler." "Reuben James" and "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" are re-recordings by Rogers, not the versions he made popular in the late '60s with his group the First Edition. Still, this is a good set for those who only want the hits.
