Unlike many of their pop-metal contemporaries, Night Ranger's early work has aged quite well, and this excellent 1982 debut is a well-kept secret of the genre. Dripping with hooks and irresistible choruses, "Don't Tell Me You Love Me," "Sing Me Away," and "Young Girl in Love" are simply outstanding songs. Anyone doubting the band's ability to rock out need only listen to the vicious bursts of "Eddie's Comin' Out Tonight" and "Play Rough." And despite offering the mandatory power ballad in "Call My Name" (which is actually quite good), the band rarely allow the album's intensity level to lag.

An uneven, nearly all-live double-record set, Tinseltown Rebellion mixes new material and versions of Zappa oldies like "Love of My Life," "I Ain't Got No Heart," "Tell Me You Love Me," "Brown Shoes Don't Make It," and a reworked "Peaches en Regalia," titled "Peaches III." These songs, as well as the band's stellar instrumental work, provide the album's best moments. Elsewhere, the title track is an only partially accurate satire of punk; Zappa's intentionally smarmy crowd banter is featured on "Dance Contest" and "Panty Rap," the latter a bit involving the collection of female audience members' underwear.

Dawn Patrol is the debut album by Night Ranger released in 1982. The band was named Ranger during the recording of the album. The first issues of the album were printed and ready to be shipped when it was discovered that there was a country band from California with the same name. The band decided to name themselves Night Ranger after the song that Blades had written for the album. The record company destroyed the copies with the band name Ranger. "Don't Tell Me You Love Me", the first single/ video was on heavy rotation on MTV and reached #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. The second single/video, "Sing Me Away" peaked at #54 on Billboard's Hot 100 and at #39 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart in the late spring of 1983

Mastered by Doug Sax and Sangwook "Sunny" Nam from the original analog master. Reviews so far are positive; it sounds as good as the 1998 CD but eliminates the segues and crossfades, returning to the LP configuration. Essential. An uneven, nearly all-live double-record set, Tinseltown Rebellion mixes new material and versions of Zappa oldies like "Love of My Life," "I Ain't Got No Heart," "Tell Me You Love Me," "Brown Shoes Don't Make It," and a reworked "Peaches en Regalia," titled "Peaches III." Gary Clark Jr. is a rocking soul man for a new generation. The 27-year-old singer-guitarist shows his deep appreciation for classic hip-hop by fusing it with contemporary soul and rock. Clark has been compared to countless legends including Jimi Hendrix. The virtuosity Clark displays is profound and puts many modern rock shredders to shame. This collection which features twelve Clark originals also includes a blistering cover of Little Johnny Taylor’s “Third Stone From The Sun/If You Love Me Like You Say” and two bonus tracks. Blak and Blu has already received praise from publications including the Washington Post, The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly and the Boston Globe.

In 1981, Olivia Newton-John released her most successful studio album, the double platinum Physical (No. 6 Pop). (Newton-John's albums, If You Love Me, Let Me Know and Have You Never Been Mellow both charted higher with each spending one week at No. 1.) The title track, written by Steve Kipner and Terry Shaddick, spent ten weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 matching the then record of most weeks at No. 1 held by Debby Boone's You Light Up My Life. The single was certified platinum and it ultimately ranked as the biggest song of the decade. (In 2008, Billboard ranked the song No. 6 among all songs that charted in the 50-year history of the Hot 100.) The Physical album spawned two more singles, Make a Move on Me (No. 5 Pop, No. 6 AC) and Landslide (No. 52 Pop).

The album's peak of #12 in the U.S. was also something of a disappointment, considering that Newton-John's previous two albums, If You Love Me, Let Me Know and Have You Never Been Mellow, had both reached #1. Nevertheless, the album did earn a gold record, and both of the album's singles were Top 20 country chart hits, with "Something Better To Do" at #19 and "Let It Shine" at #5. The market in which the album was most successful in terms of chart position was probably Japan, where Clearly Love reached #3 on the Oricon album chart.
