Reissue with SHM-CD format and new 24bit remastering. The Johnny Smith sound is a wonderful one – not just the sound that he makes with his groundbreaking work on the strings of the guitar, but also the way he records the instrument – which set a new standard in jazz guitar albums, and also helped pave the way for countless generations to come! A date like this is a great example of the standard-setting work that Smith was able to give us in his prime – and the approach slightly updates the Smith guitar sound of the early 50s – clarifying it a bit, but still keeping that great tone right out front – with a group that includes Hank Jones on piano, George Duvivier on bass, and Ed Shaughnessey on drums.

On the Road 1982 features the band's tenth anniversary tour performance from The Hague, Netherlands. Unfortunately, as the liner notes explain, the original tapes were lost, and the recording presented here draws from the version that passed through the mixing desk. While the end result is still better than your garden-variety bootleg, the sound of the "Camel Live" ladle scraping the bottom of the proverbial barrel is inescapable. Camel was promoting The Single Factor at the time (no wonder they called it the tenth anniversary tour), with a cast that bore little resemblance to any popular incarnation of the band…

Rockabilly/Rock & Roll | Country: Germany | Label: Bear Family Records

The band’s second album is somewhat different and comes with 12 original songs written by their guitarist, Mark Twang. Sandy & The Wild Wombats are in fact a live band with a frenzied live show - and this, along with a thrill of ecstasy, is exactly what the band captured on record. The sound of the Wild is truly based on 1950s Rockabilly. The new album is full of Rockabilly rhythms mixed with more or less modern Rock'n'Roll rattles, some Blues orientated songs, some Country-influenced tracks, plus a ballad. And on top of it all is the wonderful voice of Sandy. Her singing has a strong resemblence with the vocal style of the late great Wanda Jackson. However, she’s singing in a way completely her own. Sandy has left her personal mark on every song.

It's not surprising that this album was conceived on a holiday on Ibiza. En route, in the plane, the two sound wizards Martin "ez" Fekl and TC Sunshine sipped cocktails as they planned all the scenarios, dreaming of sunny chillouts on the Balearic island - inspired by the sound of the Canadian New Wave band Martha & The Muffins.

The debut album from ex-Warm Soda bandleader Matthew Melton's ostensibly retro sounding psych-rock manifestation Dream Machine, The Illusion invokes names like Iron Butterfly, Heart, Deep Purple, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and the Doors. The logical next sonic step for the Austin, Texas-based artist's quartet (Warm Soda was a period-specific sounding power-pop unit), which also includes Melton's wife Doris on organ, synth, and vocals, Ruth Spencer on bass and vocals, and Dillon Fernandez on drums, have certainly captured the sound of the era, even going so far as to record their instruments tuned to 432 Hertz (a frequency that some audiophiles feel is more pure, and even transmits healing energy), not the standard 440.
