A little bit of everything can be found on this soundtrack to German director Wim Wenders's 1987 film: theme music, songs from the film, and even some dialogue. It's an eclectic mix, but it hangs together well, instantly evoking the moody, somber texture of Wenders's remarkable story of an angel's desire to once again become flesh and blood. Jürgen Knieper's solemn, meditative string compositions dominate the first half of the disc, interspersed with actor Bruno Ganz's reading of the Peter Handke poem "Lied Vom Kindsein (Song of Childhood)"; it's a dramatic effect that works here almost as well as it does onscreen over sweeping panoramas of a still-divided Berlin.

Isfrid Kayser (1712–1771) spent almost his entire life in the Premonstratensian Abbey Marchtal, where he soon gained a reputation as an especially versatile musician. Numerous spiritual organizations commissioned church music or sacred music dramas. As a play of words on his surname (Kaiser = emperor), his confreres soon called him the “Caesar of Music.” His Magnificat and the Missa VI are presented here in a recording together with several smaller works; they document Kayser’s extraordinary accomplishments. These majestically sacred works is interpreted by the Orpheus Vokalensemble and Ars Antiqua Austria under the direction of Jürgen Essl.

On this collection, principal trombonist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Jorgen van Rijen and Wim Van Hasselt, professor of trumpet at the University of Music Freiburg in Germany, team up to explore compositions written for the combination of trumpet and trombone. The recording is named after Folke Rabe's composition Tintomara - a dualistic figure from The Briar Rose Book by the Swedish author Jonas Love Almqvist. This richly rewarding recording includes both duets and solo works.

An exciting discovery of 70's experimental electronic music: Jürgen Karg's career in music began in the 1960s as bass player for German jazz legend Wolfgang Dauner. It was not until the 1970s that he switched his attention to electronic music, launching himself wholeheartedly into exploring the genre and building up an extensive collection of synthesizers over a five year period. His efforts culminated in the "Elektronische Mythen" LP, a mighty opus of experimental music which reveals new aspects every time it is played.

"The music on this CD confirms the special position of the composer Jørgen Jersild (1913-2004) in Danish music. It is captivating chamber music written over a half-century during which the composer underwent great musical development, but at the same time persisted in his own personal style – from the early works from the 1930s and 1940s to the later string quartet showing us a courageous, mature composer seeking out new musical areas."

German-born saxophonist Jürgen Hagenlocher's third album as a leader, Leap In The Dark, is an interestingly designed mix of traditional and modern-styled jazz—an interesting walk through a selection of eight sophisticated, airy and remarkably accessible original compositions. Recording in New York, Hagenlocher formed a new quintet for this album, retaining trumpet luminary Alex Sipiagin from his previous disc, and putting him alongside veteran pianist David Kikoski, bassist extraordinaire Boris Kozlov and drummer Nate Smith.
