The Idea of North is a contemporary a cappella quartet, with a repertoire steeped in jazz but comfortably crossing over into pop, gospel, folk and comedy. "I don't like jazz and I don't like a cappella, but I LOVE The Idea of North!" (Fan quote of the year, 2007) "…musical arrangements spectacular in their conception and delivery… truly a "sight and sound" experience of the highest calibre." (Don Burrows, Australian jazz legend) Formed originally in 1993, four friends from the Canberra School of Music (Australian National University) started hanging out together and singing from time to time. There was coincidentally a bass, a tenor, an alto and a soprano in the group. It made for some sweet sounding jam sessions.

So smitten with the incredible vocal harmonies of Quartet ‘The Idea Of North’, superstar Aussie musician James Morrison decided he’d record an album with them. James and The Idea Of North’s first collaboration ‘Feels Like Spring’ has a beautifully distinct sound and style crossing many musical genres: jazz, folk, gospel, pop, classical, comedy - exactly what you hear is difficult to describe. You’ll hear songs you know and songs you don’t. You’ll hear astonishing arrangements of these songs. You’ll hear them performed with great sensitivity, great energy, by great performers. There’s wonder, intrigue and genuine spirit. There’s an amazing connection. Best of all, you’ll feel you’ve known James Morrison and The Idea Of North for years.

While religious diversity is often considered a recent phenomenon in America, the Cape Fear region of southeastern North Carolina has been a diverse community since the area was first settled. Early on, the region and the port city of Wilmington were more urban than the rest of the state and thus provided people with opportunities seldom found in other parts of North Carolina.
