This CD presents the brief but remarkable output of songs by Duparc during his artistic period that was cut short by a nervous affliction. These works are beautifully performed by mezzo-soprano Sarah Walker and baritone Thomas Allen, with sensitive piano accompaniment by Roger Vignoles. The collection opens with Duparc's best known melody, L'invitation au voyage, which is a setting of a text from Baudelaire's Les fleurs du mal. The lovely rolling impressionist piano harmonies are played with exquisite fluidity, as they underscore Walker's velvety and intimate vocals. The Sérénade florentine is an impressionist lullaby to a loved one, delivered with touching emotion by Thomas Allen. Extase, Elégie and Testament show the influence of Wagner, and the Chanson triste is one of Duparc's early, Gounod-style songs. Au pays oú se fait la guerre (1869) is also an early work, but is particularly entrancing with simple modal harmonies and easily perceived song construction. By sensitive use of passing tones in the piano, the harmonies are subtly redefined and the music is extended dramatically toward the end by expressive on-rushes.

Renaud Capuçon exudes a youthful air, but, now firmly established as one of the world’s leading violinists, he celebrates his 40th birthday on January 27th 2016. This release of the best-known works of three composers – Edouard Lalo, Pablo de Sarasate and Max Bruch – marks this important personal occasion in a suitably festive fashion. Capuçon made the recordings with Paavo Järvi and the Orchestre de Paris at the orchestra’s new home, the French capital’s Philharmonie, which opened in early 2015 and was immediately hailed for its superb acoustics. The Bruch concerto became the first piece to be recorded there, in May 2015.

Listening to guitar players such as John Mc Laughlin, Pat Metheny, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale or Allan Holdsworth Renaud Louis-Servais built his own guitar-playing style. He created the fusion band Iluna in 2000 where he met Alain Bidot-Naude (drums) and Henri Dorina (bass). The band was semi-finalist in 2008 and 2009 in ISC (International Songwriting Competition) with three of their tunes : "Theme d'iluna", "Euria" and "Gimmick". In 2010, Franck Guicherd (keyboards/trumpet) joined the band, which became the Renaud Louis-Servais Group. In 2011, the first album Iluna was recorded and mixed by Steve Prestage (Peter Gabriel, Gino Vannelli, Garry Moore) and released.
