Govan’s 2006 solo album, Erotic Cakes, took its title from the name of a fictitious bakery in The Simpsons and featured a guest shot by Richie Kotzen, garnering praise and acclaim in the virtuoso-guitar community. Govan has played with several bands, most notably a latter-day incarnation of Asia and an ensemble led by kindred spirit and neo-prog/psychedelic singer guitarist Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree fame. But with the Aristocrats, he seems to have found his niche—for the moment, anyway.
For his debut 20 Licks series we gave Guthrie Govan all of the creative liberties he desired, and what we were left with is pretty outstanding! This package is all Guthrie; from the overall series concept, to the jamtrack, the ideas and licks inside the package. It's all hot off the press from one of the worlds most accomplished, and refined guitar players.
Includes: Matt Sickels 20 Sick Licks; Alternate Picking Master Class Parts 1 & 2; Blues Soloing Master Class Complete; Modal Technique Master Class Complete; Guthrie Govan Jam Track Series Selections
Born in Porto Alegre, South of Brazil, I was exposed to a strong mixed culture of music from Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. I started to play guitar in my childhood, at the age 13 and under influence by Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Jimmy Page and Stevie Ray Vaughan. I took private lessons and few years later I started to teach in some music schools in Porto Alegre and by doing that I got involved in projects like guitar clinics, master classes and I also become a session player. Besides that, I was also studying music and I graduated in Music Performance and later on in Guitar & Technology, Music Pedagogy. I am also an orchestrator certified by Berklee USA.
