Paul Francis Gadd (born 8 May 1944), known by the stage name Gary Glitter, is an English former glam rock singer-songwriter and musician who achieved great popular success between the early 1970s and mid 1980s. He later gained notoriety as a sex offender, being convicted in 1999 of possession of child pornography and, in 2006 and 2015, of child sexual abuse. Glitter has sold over 20 million records, spent 168 weeks in the UK charts and has had 21 hit singles placing him in the top 100 UK most successful chart acts.

Gary Glitter's second album is a different beast from the retro-oriented Glitter: this time the material is predominately original and many of the tunes have a harder, funkier edge to them (example: "Come on, Come in, Get On" has enough distortion on it to qualify as heavy metal). The album's best songs are the ones that became big pop-chart hits in England: "Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)" is a surprisingly lusty mid-tempo slice of glam that was later successfully covered by Joan Jett and "Hello, Hello, I'm Back Again" combines a double-time beat with call and response vocal performance to create a truly infectious single.

Glam Rock / Pop Rock | Snapper Music's U.K. DCD Compilation # GGCD 001

Perhaps second to only Freddie Mercury, Gary Glitter was the most flamboyant figure of the early '70s U.K. glam rock movement. With a bouffant hairdo, snazzy clothes, high platform boots, and hairy chest exposed, to the delight of his female fans, Glitter rocked his way to the top of the British charts, enjoying a string of big hit singles. This 32-tracks official compilation is a fine introduction to one of glam rock's leading artists. Every track is good/great/wonderful. You can't go wrong with such glam standards as "Rock & Roll Pt. 2", "Do You Wanna Touch Me", "Leader Of The Gang", "Doing Alright With the Boys", and "Oh Yes! You're Beautiful", which are all included here in their mascara-caked glory. This 2 CD set is the best Gary Glitter compilation on the market.

The Glitter Band's first album included both of their initial brace of British hits: "Angel Face" and "Just for You." The remaining tracks are split between band originals, a version of the Gary Glitter/Mike Leander song "Rock On," and covers of oldies like "Sealed With a Kiss," "Sea Cruise," "All I Have to Do Is Dream," and "Gimme Some Loving."…

Between 1974-1976, the Glitter Band released a total of nine singles on the U.K. Bell label, running up seven Top 20 hits, one American club smash, and emerging, at the end of the day, with two bona fide classics – their debut, "Angel Face," and, precisely midway through the sequence, "Goodbye My Love." All have now been recycled so many times that there can barely be an interested soul in the world who does not own the entire catalog in one permutation or another…

The Glitter Band's fourth U.K. album was also the first to be marketed under the band's new name – the G Band, a bid for artistic credibility that unfortunately overlooked one crucial point. It was the missing "litter" that most people liked. But still, ten songs find the band manfully attempting to pursue the likes of Smokie (and the Sweet) into full-on adult rock territory and, if you overlook the group's heritage, much of it works…
