is a comic book series created by writer Bill Willingham, published by DC Comics's Vertigo imprint beginning in 2002. The series deals with various characters from fairy tales and folklore--referring to themselves as "Fables"--who have been forced out of their Homelands by "The Adversary" who has conquered the realm. The Fables have traveled to our world and formed a clandestine community in New York City known as Fabletown. Fables who are unable to blend in with human society (such as monsters and anthropomorphic animals) live at "the Farm" in upstate New York. Willingham reinterprets the characters and infuses his tales with elements current and relevant to our times. As of 2008 Fables has won 12 Eisner Awards, and the artists involved an additional 13 more, making it the most awarded among current book titles. Issue #98 is part 5 of the 5-part story arc "Rose Red" and leads up to the series' 100th issue. A Minutemen scan.

No, this isn't Fables 101, a primer on the wonderful worlds of FABLES. Instead, we check in on Bufkin, Frankie and the Magic Mirror in the lost Business Office to see what they've been up to since slaying Baba Yaga. You won't believe what they're up to. So we won't even try to tell you. --

In this fantastic 100-page issue, it's time to put an end to Mister Dark once and for all, and time for the Fables to return home to Fabletown. For that to happen, one of the Fables agrees to take on the Dark Man in single combat! It's big, it's epic, and if you live in New York City, you may want to take a quick vacation when this issue comes out, because things are going to get wrecked! In addition to the larger-than-life main story, we have a FABLES prose story written by Mark Buckingham and illustrated by Bill Willingham! We have an All-Star Burning Questions section that will knock your socks off (seriously, innocent people are going to lose some socks here). We have a puppet theatre created by the unstoppably creative Mark Buckingham, a FABLES board game, sequential stories painted by Chrissie Zullo and Joao Ruas, and even more surprises in this square-bound behemoth celebrating this award-winning Vertigo series! This is the 99th issue of Fables. The filename as uploaded by the scanner still bears "Fables_098...", but of course the contents are of issue #99. I forgot to change it. My bad.

Copenhagen group Girls in Airport is in fine form on Fables, its fourth release, and first on the Edition Records label. There are fewer big tunes than before although the band's trademark melodic hooks and rhythmic drive, its understated lyricism and hypnotic grooves are all present in abundance. What's been brought into sharper focus is the emotional currency in the writing and a narrative thread that seems to flow through these nine compositions. Significantly too, the percussive bite that Victor Dybbroe brought to Migration (Gateway Music, 2011) and Kaikoura (Gateway Music, 2013) contributes greatly to an intoxicating fusion of meditative lyricism and shamanistic funk.

Described by The Observer as “a contemporary hero of British Choral Music”, Bob Chilcott is one of today’s most widely performed composers of choral music. This programme includes première recordings of favourites such as A Little Jazz Mass, songs and carols on a variety of texts, and the wit, wisdom and drama of Aesop’s Fables in which Chilcott makes musical references to Brahms and Schubert. Winner of the coveted BBC Choir of the Year award in 2010, the Wellensian Consort is one of the United Kingdom’s leading chamber choirs.
