In 1963 Sydney Newman, progressive head of BBC TV's drama department, wants to fill a Saturday tea-time slot with a show with youth appeal and hits on the idea of an august figure, like a doctor, leading a group of companions on time travel adventures. He engages inexperienced young producer Verity Lambert to expand the idea.

I was very impressed with this story. Omega is the first of four specials that Big Finish released to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of everyones favourite time lord. An inspired idea, having each drama focus on a villain from the series. At time of review i have not heard the next three. I approached Omega with characteristic trepidation, knowing full well the possibility of the spoiling the series continuity by ruining Omega as a character. In The Three Doctors he was a raving lunatic, in Arc of Infinity a troubled loony with a little heart. In Omega, well, without spoiling anything, they don't ruin his image.

AISAT is basically the roleplaying game of The David Tennant Years (although we don't forget Christopher Eccleston or his predecessors, even if the artwork does). This is a game with the lush high quality production that one might expect from an officially BBC licenced Doctor Who product, but how does it stand up?

Pretty well, if all things are considered.

This product aims itself squarely at fans of Doctor Who and relies on the idea that existing RPG aficionados will be intrigued enough to pick it up. For those experienced gamers I'll lay it on the line that this is a great little system (if phenomenally basic) that makes a Time-Lord-Saving-The-Universe-Pseudo-Science out of hand-waving the rules, but does so in a nice way that encourages the games master and the players to work co-operatively to tell a great story. The primary balancing point in the rules comes down to Story Points- want to play a Time Lord, powerful alien, or immortal like Jack Harkness you will have less of these and they allow you to influence everything from roll results to those big dramatic moments when the Doctor returns to his youthful appearance and shows the Master who's boss.

Seeing I is the second in the BBC range from coauthors Kate Orman and Jonathan Blum. The first 170 or so of the book's 279 pages drag interminably as Sam and the Doctor spend three years being unable to meet up due to the fact that the Doctor has been locked up in an inescapable prison for the crime of trying to locate his companion using somewhat unorthodox methods. Sam in the meantime becomes a quasi-ecoterrorist seeking to undermine the controlling techno-company on the planet. It's this same organization that holds the Doctor, and it isn't until Sam finds his details on a file pirated from the company that they get to finally meet, after almost three whole books spent apart.
